The apartments in "new" Greens close to the Choithrams are massive. Ideal for families especially the ground floor ones with their own courtyards.
The tower apartments along the golf course are a bit small but there's still plenty of families in my building.

Greens is a good idea, nice and cheap, or maybe the springs. Loads of mums with prams in that area.
The problem with the Ranches is that you are literally stuck in the middle of nowhere. There are shops onsite that sells most things but you do need to get out too.
Ranches to Jebel Ali is an easy enough commute.

I like the Ranches as its more houses as apposed to appartments - with a newborn on the way. i also like the idea of having a small garden.
I guess ill see when im out there. Getting put up in an appartment until we find our own place to rent so its not like i need to secure something before i go.
Thanks again for the help

OK, a little mean (although I'm not the only one to say it), but it is never really a first choice is it? Identical rows of identical little houses. I've hardly ever met anyone who is genuinely happy living there.

Re: Newbies....Introduce yourselves to the ME crowd
Hi Roadking. What I want and what may be affordable may be 2 different things (given i know nothing about how expensive things are over there). We will be given a housing allowance from my husbands company of 100,000 AED pa. I really dont know what we can afford for this, any advice would be appreciated. The only real need is 2 bedrooms. the following are "would likes" if budget allows... Family area, close to shops, cafes, close to the beach would be nice, not too busy (traffic wise). I have read that there arent really "bad" areas in Dubai (maybe rose tinted specs on tho). I'd want to feel safe walking about the area with a baby.
God reading this back it sounds a bit demanding. Realistically we only need 2 bedrooms. Do you think the bidget would allow any of this?

Newsflash dude. You can get a 2-bed villa in the Springs or Mirdiff for as low as 65K these days.
100k should be fine for a 2 bed apartment, not sure if you'll end up with a villa for that. you'll not do much walking here unless you are next to a park, it's not quite the same as popping down to JI Smiths for a pie or into the Strathbogie for a pint...
