Re: I'm new to this so ....Hi!
Well said, Co durham boy! When I first came to the Gulf, it used to be:
Start in Saudi, because everywhere is an improvement on Saudi, even Kuwait, as women could drive there, and go about unwrapped, as it were. Then Qatar ( no booze in hotels then, just 400Q.R at the Cable and Wireless syndicate once a month) Then Oman, then U.A.E/ Bahrain as the postings that were the easiest.
But that was thirty years ago, and nearly everywhere in the Gulf has moved on a bit since then....

Wesgreen International had a look on Google maps and its at the back of Sharjah, next to the desert! 7500 AED / £1300 tax free a month for a 1 year contract , work Sun to Thu and digs are included.Apartment style opp school seemingly.
If I take it I guess I would be spending a lot of money on taxi's !

that's a terrible salary, be careful
and if the accommodation is near the school.... be like living on an industrial estate and there used to be a massive tip just behind there

Thanks for the advice , I'm starting to paint a picture. it is a lot less than obviously at home and i've just been reading about the tax rules so that is not so good either. Although acommodattion is free , it might be a tiny horrible flat and also standard of living is higher than what I am used to. Might try and hold off for a bit. Many Thanks for all your comments , enjoy life.

OK so salary no good Just for information does anyone know what a good salary would be and what I should be looking for ? I have been a teacher for a year in the UK so fairly junior. If accommodation is covered ,what would you be looking for ?
Maybe need to post this on the teacher's forum ,will do that too. Thanks.

Re: I'm new to this so ....Hi!
I gave my opinion that having been there a couple of times, it's a shit pit.
Whether I live in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha or Mayfair is irrelevant.
Whether I've been here for 5 minutes or 50 years is irrelevant as well, I've been to Sharjah and it's not somewhere I would want to live. In fact, I said I'd be looking at Dubai and Abu Dhabi over Sharjah, not to rule it out completely.
I don't have a visa, therefore I don't have a sofa, or a bed in fact. This forum is pretty useful to find out where I should be looking for that sort of stuff. Just like the OP has asked about Sharjah, I've been there a couple of times but I've not been to a furniture shop. Let alone a furniture shop in Sharjah.
Now, please, continue with the "I'm better than everyone else on here because I'd live in a 'harder' location".

read it back - I never said live there, I said live in Dubai and travel, I worked in Sharjah for years and enjoyed it, there was a real community spirit about the place. You dismissed it out of hand
the relevance is the lass is asking for advice and someone who still hasn't got a visa, a sofa or a full compliment of pubic hair may not be the best qualified to dispense it
