Once you get used to a certain level of spending it's difficult to go back to what you used to earn. I would think that's very much the case out here.

Does military spending in this region generally track other gov investment projects or are they more/less likely to be axed?

One of the main stories in this morning's news bulletins on ARN was about the green light being given for various projects in Dubai. I can't remember the number mentions but it was a lot of Dirhams.

There is no problem with financing in Dubai. It is not true that our income has reduced by more than half, in fact we have a lot more money and we announce some great big financial initiatives. No problems to see here, now move along.

I don't know what you mean? Exit strategy. If i lose my job I will look for another one? Back in UK or here.

Why make it out to be a big drama?

Hhhmmmmm. Have you got big loans out for car, rent, furniture etc. Have you got a big spending allowance on your credit card and you've maxed it out? All of these things will trip you up badly if you lose your job or do something silly meaning that you are deported. Exit strategy means being sensible, unlike so many in the UAE before the crash where they were 'forced'to skip the country leaving everything behind.

All this plus potential tax liabilities and the freezing of bank accounts on final salary payments.

It's all okay. We now have a park that is covered in neon lights and a couple more Guinness records.

Forgot to mention that they may block him getting a visa with another company. I do wonder why some people are so naive when coming to a country which has little enforceable labour laws and no such thing as warnings, written warnings blah blah blah. If you get fired, instantly, that's it, bye bye now!

Popped by on here to say hi

My FB feed is brutal, so many friends in O&G lost their jobs. I've hung on to mine by skin of teeth. Worldwide phenomenon, projects closing down everywhere as companies hunker down for long term drops.

Amazing considering that in the late 90s when we dropped to 9.7/bbl a 35$ world would have been wonderful.

My only issue is furniture, rent I pay myself, no credit cards - so I have none of the above because I use my top 6 inches of my body.

Instead blowing it all on clothes, booze and Russian hookers!
