Simply awesome TV series, I have all 5series on Hd if anyone wants them. I watch them again and again currently watching Sons of Anarchy,

But Boardwalk empire is another series by the same team behind the wire and is really well done.

Devils Double is also a great movie. I watched that last week.

Not a film but a very good dark comedy...new 3part series.
"Black Mirror" A princess has been kidnapped and the only demand is that the UK prime minister has to shag a pig live on national TV or she dies!!!Lol .

New series. First of three darkly comic horror stories about the power of technology in the 21st century. Prime minister Michael Callow faces a dilemma when Princess Susannah, a much-loved member of the royal family, is kidnapped, and he and his staff struggle to deal with shifting public opinion as information about the case spreads across the internet. Written by Charlie Brooker, and starring Rory Kinnear, Lydia Wilson, Lindsay Duncan and Tom Goodman-Hill.

We watched part one of that last night. Charlie Brooker has a sick mind for dreaming up that scenario!!

I loved Source Code (perfect for in-flight watching), but watched it at least three times before I fully got it all (quibble: at the end, shouldn't 'Sean' be in it, not Jake Gyllenhall's character?). It also had the superb Vera Farmiga in it, which always raises a film by a notch or three.

But better still.............. I totally recommend 'Super 8', which was directed by JJ Abrams but has "I love Spielberg" tattooed on its forehead (he produced it anyway). Set in 1979, kids making a zombie home movie (hence the title), train crash, mystery happenings, military involvement, an alien......... but all brilliantly told, and featuring an unusually superb cast of teenage actors (Elle Fanning, Dakota's baby sister, is astonishing). It will appeal to an age range of, say, 5 to 80.

Finished 'the devils doulbe' last night - great story but the lad who was in it, who was in mamma mia just didn't cut it for me, I mean this lad was a monster and he was played almost like a mad freddie mercury. If they'd gotten someone more arabic and really nasty it could have been a really horrible film - in a good way.

Worth a watch though.

Wanted to revive this thread to offer a solid recommendation for "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" which I belatedly caught up with yesterday.

The plot is well-known now but a superb cast are all utterly riveting (Tom Hardy particularly good, Mark Strong, Benedict "Sherlock" Silly-Name, Colin Firth predictably excellent) - but Gary Oldman is just astonishing.

Oldman seem to find something extra in everything he does, but if you ever wondered what 'facial acting' is, here is the masterclass.

Don't expect Bond/Bourne shoot-outs and action - this is a film that actually asks you to think..............

Agreed but on first viewing I couldn't get Alec guiness out of my head so watched it again well worth the effort of a second viewing

I have to disagree, shiva. Thought The Wire beat The West Wing hands down...

I've done the whole five series three times. The Wire is brilliant. I love it, love it, love it. Like watching five brilliant novels on tv, if you know what I mean. You get so involved. Omar little is one of the best tv characters ever. So is Stringer Bell.

I barely went out when I had those to watch... It took me four or five episodes to get hooked though.

Five great films for me:

Leon
little Miss Sunshine
Grosse Pointe Blank
singing in the rain
goodfellas

We watched "The Devil's Double" last night, the story of the man who was hijacked into becoming Uday Hussein's body double.

Worth watching for Dominic Cooper's excellent performance (he plays both the psychotic Uday and the double), the plot is somewhat vague and fails to really get into either's character.

The locals will love it for the mindless violence and foul language!

Wholeheartedly agree, well work braving the sub zero aircon in Reel Cinemas to watch. I'm too young (just) to remember the TV series so cannot comment on whether that is better, but this is the best thing I've seen at the cinema since the King's Speech.

I thought he was bloody AWFUL. He was more like Freddie Mercury, if they'd got someone good it could have been a really horrible film. Great story though.

A tale of how not to get involved with what shouldn't concern you. It's a shocking, time-bomb of a movie with a brutal, almost Old Testament nerve-wracking moral feel.

It was good on a big screen-

Watched 'Drive the other day and loved it, got a very 80s feel to it.

'Tree of Life' is utterly insane, beautiful to watch and once you are done it's incredible, but still mental.

Anything else worth watching?

The English Patient is my fav but being a ruffy tuffy bloke I probably should also throw in a few other choices.. watched The Descendants which was enjoyable and War Horse is a good bit of Spielberg. Anyone see the Thing (not the original John Carpenter but the prequel that came out last year ? Don't watch it in a dark room .. or in the snow.
