Diet
#61
Counting calories is utterly boring. I've never done it and just cut out the crap when required.
Isn't it obvious that if you are putting on weight you are eating too much or not doing enough exercise so you take steps to adjust that? It's really not rocket science and if people haven't realised that a diet of cake and crisps isn't good then they are utterly stupid.

Yes and no. Fasting is not only natural but it seems the research is increasingly pointing towards it being essential to maintain full health.
Right on the cutting edge are a few studies that have shown a 7 day fast to have completely reset the immune system, stimulated the production of stem cells and show early promise of being able to treat auto immune conditions. One study showed MS to be "cured" it's too early yet to tell if it will reappear but so far the individual show no signs that were previously there of Ms.
Strange and wonderful things happen in the human body when it is under extreme stress from starvation or extreme exertion often both. the old 3-6 regular meals a day and several hours of cardio a week are been increasingly shown to not only be highly inefficient but to be positively detrimental to health at a cellular level.
It's no accident that activity and food intake levels that mimic 2 million years of hominid evolution seem to be the most effective way of maintaining health.
Now I'm not for a moment suggesting ditching modern healthcare but there is an interesting point where the two combined allow for minimal intervention and effort and maximum health

I have lost 17 pounds in 7 weeks with a bit of moderate exercise and that.
If I were younger I would run, which I loved but no longer works.

Scamp could change his life by doing burpees. And no, this isn't something you do after necking a beer.

I do not see anything in there that would discourage large amounts of green veggies, such as kale, collard greens, broccoli, peas, asparagus, mustard greens and etc...all of which you can eat all you want of (without butter ) without ever approaching 2000 calories. Obviously mix in a couple small amounts of chicken or fish and or perhaps beans.

Burpees can get ****ed. Although I might start doing some in the mornings. In fact, I might just start doing something in the mornings. Years ago when I was unfit and just split up with a long term mrs and was over 19stone I started with press ups. But I was such a fatty that I could barely do any, so ended up doing them stood up, with a lean against a wall (not bolt upright, but at an angle) until I could do loads, then hit the deck and smashed them out.
Burpees and press ups in the morning it is then.

The squat , the single most effective exercise on the planet . Heavy and deep with correct form and you'll have an arse you could balance a pint of cider on and be as fit as a pikeys dog .

You'd be amazed at how many very fit 16-18yr old lads are puking guts up after 50mins of that.

Would you be allowed to drink the cider or just look at/balance it?
Hateful sounding. When I was at college, the basketball team had fitness practice every Thursday. If we'd so much as looked tired in our last game we were made to do full court sprints in groups of 3. Dribble the ball the way up and back, swap.

It is however the most painful and hateful workout I know. I haven't done it in nearly a year just because it's so hateful and frankly a bit scary. The pain lasts for ****ing days
