Yep, Cara is the place although be prepared for a long visit. Excellent service, custom made settings if you want and reasonable value for money. Bought Mrs RK loads of stuff there...gotta keep her happy so I can have bike stuff!

Re: Diamond Ring
Haribo Starmix.
Available at most good supermarkets.
Open Pack, eat through sweets until gummy ring located, pause, give gummy ring to mrs.
Explain it's the thought that counts and that if she loved you, she would appreciate the sweet and sentimental nature of your efforts.
Continue to finish the packet of sweet en route to the pub, with a smile on your face.
Solved.

I'm a regular customer of Cara in G&D Park too. There are good reasons why so many people rate them. Decent choice, quality items, they will alter or make anything you want, decent prices and good after-sales service.
For those who need a label Tiffany is fine, but you'll get way more for your money in Cara or somewher similar, After all, no one wears the packaging.

I've heard good reports about Cara too. I have used the following jewellers in AD without any problems so have a good look round before you buy:-
Reem (next to the Hamdan Centre)
Khalifa (Liwa Street)
Eastern (Khalifa Street)
Baniyas Jewellers (Madinat Zayed Gold Souk)
Direct Diamonds (Shangri La Souq)
Happy shopping - you will be a diamond expert by the time you have been to them all.

Re: Diamond Ring
Yes you always haggle and make sure they know that you live here as this will help as they may get repeat business from "all your visiting daughters etc etc" We also bought something from Tiffanys and got a "best price" reduction! Forgot to say earlier that many of the mentioned will also make a ring to your own design or copy one.

Re: Diamond Ring
for ease, tag said 1,000
then he wrote down 750, crossed it out
wrote down 560, crossed it out
wrote down 410 and said that was the best.
Wasn't going to buy it (the numbers were quite a bit bigger), but i wrote down 250 and he nearly said yes.
warped mentality of haggling

Re: Diamond Ring
Mate bought an engagement ring out of Reem, got about 20% off the marked price if I remember correctly. one of the ladies in Al Reef is friendly with the owner. If you are likely to go for a look there, let me know and I'll get her to phone in advance like she did for my mate.

Re: Diamond Ring
have found buying bits here that telling them you live here usually brings a 50% reduction immediately to any starting point in a negotiation, after that your first counter should be about 25% of whatever they say.
as a general guide the price tickets are absolutely meaningless and are purely there for the tourists, if your paying more than 30% of a ticket price your probably getting screwed. if you get to a point where they refuse to sell to you and wont follow you out the shop you really do know youre below the"best price" and a little above that will secure whatever it is.
oh and cara is a good place to go, know what you want, what your budget is and what the days diamond and gold prices are and argue hard
