Wasn't the whole diamond ring thing a PR thing invented by the DeBeers lot? A bit like the coca-cola santa image thing only costing a load more

I cant remember who on here said it- I think it was weescot but it has stayed with me. It was something along the lines of;

When on your death bed would you wish for more or would you wish you'd seen and experienced more?

Forget the rings and take your ladies somewhere fabulous and create some wonderful memories. Spugs - and maybe give her a teeny diamond in a blue box as well.

Hmmm that's not a bad idea.

As long as your buying a graded bit of rock with certificate you should be good, I guess you could be buying something with poor plated metal from the souks

I recommend Tony at Mamiya in the Gold and Diamond Park, he can source was you want and get it set for you. I also use Karats in Lamcy Plaza, Hanson can get you anything you want and his prices are good.

the best place is cara in gold and diamond park...certified diamonds and you can get a good price...i haven't bothered to have my rings valued in the uk but friends have and they were worth over three times what they paid...in general, any store in g&d park is better value than the souks, as the souks are where all the tourists go to first...

I think wife's ring came from there and it was approx 1/3rd the price. 3 years later still looks great
