Too scared to live in England.

Well come to think about it, I've also got a mate who is a heavyweight boxer, and he doesn't dare walk home from bingo evening on his own in Weston-Super-Mare because of all the murderous thugs on the prowl. Of course, he wouldn't want to walk home anyway seeing as it always rains in England and it's always cold, not to mention full of litter.... so maybe ukflyaway is correct after all!!
Run away!!

I found Australians more aggresive in shops and pubs and restaurants, I have complained a few times to be basically told "if you dont like it mate, you can ***k off" I remember taking a pint of flat lager back to a bar, the barman took a big slug before handing it back to me saying "nothing wrong with that mate, now take your pint and bugger off"

I think last year 55 people were murdered by a gun in the UK last year, maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. Take out the number of gang shootings and domestics. How likely is the average innocent likely to get shot?
However reading the papers you would think we should all be walking around wearing flak jackets!!

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself"....
Warning: long post on fear and crime, may cause drowsiness...
In recent years, a scientific study 'proved' that the fear of pain has a more traumatising effect on a person than pain itself.
I think it is reasonable to assume that the same is true of crime.
To those who say 'if you don't like where you live then move somewhere else': I did, and it doesn't work. After much effort, I was able to drag myself 'up' the housing ladder, eventually landing in a nice little rural village in Lancs. Being close to Manchester all my life, for the last 10ish years I have observed a very worrying trend. Starting (I believe) in Salford, the 'gangs' of kids started to wear a uniform - navy or black track trousers with white stripe, timberland shoes, black adidas / nike coat with hood, black gloves (even in summer). Correctly assembled, only the eyes are visible (plus maybe the angry dog on a heavy metal chain). New in the shops last year: A black coat which completely covers the head apart from two sewn-in round plastic lenses for the eyes, an urban biohazard suit. Is any of this illegal? No, and rightly so. We should all be free to wear what we want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.
I regularly see groups of kids from 8 to 18 in the uniform. I'm a fairly hefty bloke and to walk through a group of them makes me tense. They have arrived in our rural idyll. Recently and noticeably, having been moved away from town centres by the police, and having recruited new members. Local cars are regularly damaged, burned out even. Not all the kids are bad - for some it's just a fashion. But for those bad apples, the uniform offers anonymity, which further emboldens them. In our village, my OH now gets a lift to the bus stop for work, or is taken in the car to a shop 1 mile away. This is due to being repeatedly intimidated, even in nurses uniform.
When we go to work in Victoria later this year we will not be running away from these people (nor do we expect to find a crime-free utopia out there!). In fact we will return to the village probably. If we clear off to live elsewhere due to fear/crime I think that we will not only have admitted defeat, but we will have failed those decent local people who cannot leave for whatever reason. When good people leave an area, that area takes a step towards becoming yet another no-go zone. And good people take another step towards life in a gated community.
Having said all that, I don't have kids and am not a pensioner or vulnerable, and my views might easily be different if I was. We will change country (in either direction) for positive reasons, such as better weather in Oz or a more familiar lifestyle in UK.
I don't claim to have the answer, but I've got a feeling that stronger communities could help. UK crime is falling? Fair enough, but we have long since stopped reporting crime, all it did was put the phone bill up!
These are just my personal views.... I'm ready to be wrong if convinced.
The only thing that scares me about living in England is how I will react when the idiots keep testing my patience, hopefully it will never happen...

I believe you that they exist though. Are they abusive and threatening? Possibly carrying weapons? Or just erm 'hoons' as in over exuberant testosterone fuelled lads showing off to the girls?
You can probably tell I've never been to Oz.

I'm a bit naive here, I just can't imagine a bunch of naughty Aussies! It's all Bush Tucker Man and Steve Irwin, surfing and Aussie Rules, plus a bit of Neighbours and Sydney Opera House.

I like clubbing and have seen some scary scenes with knives and bottles, one guy was stabbed in the neck at a club I was at in my last week there and died before the ambulance arrived.

I live in Sydney and posted on here last week about what happened to my work colleague. He was walking home from work one evening and was mugged by 3 men. Beaten to the ground, repeatedly kicked and punched from head to foot, and is still covered in bruises and has 3 cracked ribs. It happens here alright!! Regularly!

Well some tasty hells angels that will welcome you if you go into the wrong area, stay away from Balga,Mirrabooka, Nollamara, Westmister.as you do see just as much anti-social trouble as in some parts of the UK.

Unless he was making it up so I would get my visa sorted and come and save him...

She/He didn't know where she lived either. And she/he couldn't spell.
