Or in the words of one Willie Nelson "Don't wait 'til tomorrow to follow your dreams 'cos by the time you get there there gone".

I was aged 22 when I went by ship to Australia, and although I have a sister there, the move was extremely big in my life. However it was something I needed to do, so I did it. I have also lived in Germany and visited a number of times, again something I needed to do, so it was done.

For you to take the next step in your big adventure takes courage, there is much unknown for you, but take the plunge. Book a flight to make it definite and head for our islands off the coast of Europe. Constant analysis will give you more concerns and doubts, and you will end up not doing anything.

We don't always make good decisions in our lives, I've made plenty of bad ones and survived, so if you find things difficult in the UK, review your options and return home if need be.

I don't look at this moving thing as an adventure as much as going where I feel like I'll be happy for the rest of my life. BTW, I used to be quite adventurous...I need to find that brave me again.

I think 'adventure' is better, Sile. 'Adventure' presupposes an open state of mind and no necessary need for happiness. Happiness is very illusory, and my feeling is that if one looks too intesely for happiness one misses out on a lot....

As everyone else says, stop thinking (over-thinking) it & start doing it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. It surely WILL be an adventure, no matter what!

Wirral was listed in a recent survey as the fourth best place in Britain to raise a family. It's always good to get involved with families, even those not your own. It's relatively inexpensive, the people are friendly and open, (but you get all types everywhere in the world). It's not a problem to strike up a meaningful conversation in a pub or shop. North Wales is an easy drive for fabulous scenery and quaint touristy villages. Merseyrail is halfway decent and has the best on time record of any British train operator. London is in easy reach for a day trip and affordable (but only if you book in advance to buy the cheapie).

I seriously looked at Hoylake, but I'm retired. Somewhere near a motorway (perhaps Frodsham?) is probably better if you are going to need to earn a living.

You can live fairly well and cheaply while you get settled, moving up market later if things are working out. Surf at http://www.rightmove.co.uk/
I'm from Liverpool and we always called it "THE Wirral" dunno why.....

In the last 12 months we have:

Packed up our life in the middle east and moved to Queensland

Set up life in Queensland only to find my employer turned into an arsehole

Packed up life in QLD and moved back to UK

Set up home in UK only fo find salaries are lower than whale shit and the place really is shite on the whole

Packed up in UK and heading back to the middle east for super new job and sunshine

If we wore your shoes we would still be thinking about going in the first place and so could have saved all the expense by coming full circle. Hope that helps lmfao

Don't bother with the move I would think.

However if you do take the plunge, why not think of it as an adventure into the unknown? If it isn't an adventure as you've previously indicated, what do you regard as an adventure?

If you would like to be helpful that is.

Oh, and which part of the Middle East too.

No problem. The very northern most part of staffordshire as you hit the border with south Cheshire. We were only temp there whilst we hunted for work and were willing to relocate however salaries en par with those when we originally left the uk demonstrated that the place is a bit buggered. We had dramas getting a rental even though we were paying up front as property in the nice bits of Cheshire we focused on were in short supply and the LL always took a working applicant
now ok stoke and surrounding areas have always been grim shitholes And will never appear in returning expat threads as locations considered by those missing England's green and pleasant lands but they were a regular reminder of why we left the uk and are doing so again.
The only plus side of the frequent rain is that it washes the ever present dog shit off the pavements

I have worked all over the mid east and whilst now returning to Dubai, I would have to say that even Yanbu compares favorably with stoke.

However in a bid to be helpful to the op. The purpose of the response was to demonstrate that you can sit and analyze to death reasons to stay put or move on or you can just get on with it for better or for worse. Nearly always it's for the better. In our case it took us round the world and back but better that than to never have gone at all.
Also for the sake of the OP, the dog shits were predominately from staffordshire bull terriers and often medium brown in colour. They also were predominately on the garden wall side ofthe pavement and not roadside notwithstanding the dissolving process during early onset of rain when of course the whole pavement is awash with shit. Something to think about before making a decision to move

I don't consider the last bit at all when deciding where to move, and I find it kind of odd and gross for you to reference it in such great and crass detail.

But thanks for the advice about getting on with it...

...which is why you need to carefully consider whether you are up to British Humour in all its weird and wonderful varieties.

If it helps I disagree with him completely. I live on an estate with loads of dog owners and there is no problem, they all pick it up. (I am not a dog lover).

UK is great but there are parts best avoided. I have never been to Stoke. It was famous for the Pottery industry of course, alas now mainly overseas.

................not to mention the colorful language that can't be avoided as you pass people on the streets!

And, oh, that British slang!
