Re: OVER 50's & 60's MOVING BACK TO THE UK - Part II
- they sure are a tough bunch over there!!! By reading the immigration forums made me realise how lucky I was to get my job in the US and how easy the visa applications were back in 1988/89 for computer specialists. Job was advertised in UK computer press in August 1988 and I moved to the US Feb 1989 with a HIB visa in hand!!

And so she should! The Australian floods, and now the Brazillian ones, are absolutely terrible. Want to feel some rain in the desert? Turn on your sprinkler for a few minutes, that's the best I can offer - or I can bottle some Frome rain and mail it to you...

I suppose in some ways the Internet has made people lazier. The information is out there now for all to read, but for some it's easier to get on a forum and let somebody else do the work for you.

I was thinking the same thing, but then decided that it really is the most efficient way to go about it. Actually, it's the time for DR to promote his authoritative book about how to do it. LOL

I can think of plenty of examples of how the amazing array of information technology we have just seems to make people even lazier - I mean these days you don't need to go to the library to search for stuff, you can just sit in your pajamas (SORRY ... pyjamas) and get stuff online for goodness sakes.

I haven't even started packing!! I may or may not get some help with relocation costs or at least on the cheap so waiting to hear about that and the job thing has left me in some kind of limbo state............

It said it had a mild warm climate and didn't get cold, God I wish I still had that booklet!! So in my "wisdom" I got rid of all heavy blankets and stuff, then had to buy them when we got here plus in the winter buy electric blankets!! Mind you I was probably reading up on the wrong state!!
Looking at the weather we have had here this past few weeks would make anybody think twice about emigrating here, it seems to be torrential rain and floods everywhere except where I am, I am getting out before it hits New South Wales!!

I remember doing "research" on emigrating to Australia, it consisted of a train trip to read a newspaper in the main library in Liverpool and a booklet from Australia House with very misleading information about the weather!!

We came here in 1981 with all our extensive "research" done and dusted to live on the other side of the bloomin' world and none of us had ever been on a plane before LOL!!! Ironic I have spent years here working for an airline!

I hadn't heard I was watching some home video on BBC online about Australia, it's just awful to watch.

I bet nobody will say to me "How can you bear to go back to the awful weather in the UK?" now, not after this lot.
