mozzies....there a mare though...

and down in Oxford, you could sit outside for most of the year...also gets dark very late except in the height of winter, so it really is all down to location where ever you decide to live.

So why mention them, then, ie why not the reasons that DID make them leave, ie the relevant ones!?

OK, my opinion, then:- Most people get used to the heat of a hot country over a period of time, and Florida, like Aus is "Geared up" for the heat, ie air con on cars as standard, shopping malls lovely and cool etc, (been to both places more than once, so know this to be true). Now compare this to the UK..a sprinkling of snow and the roads gring to a holt, a heatwave and everybody suffers, because we ARE NOT geared up...

sorry jamie, my dear old us mil born and bred here in tx never never did get used to the high heat and humidity just like many other residents. the roads here truly suffer with the extreme weather conditions. when we have rain the roads are either like a skating rink or else they flood with the monsoon like downpours and so it goes on.

so it's not just the good old uk that are not geared up

Fair enough, guess that is unavoidable, but we intend to hopefully avoid the parts of Aus with the really high humidity, ie the Tropical North of Qld (Cairns).

good for you, high humidity like we have here is not good...very often temps in the summer the heat index will be 100f with 100% humidity....HELP

it's not nice or healthy living 24/7 in air conditioning however grateful we are for it.

Humidity sucks..........

It takes me about 3 attempts to mow my front and back lawns in the summer........sweat pouring down........drinking water continuously. Serious........

I really must buy a lawn mower........

Well here in PA we should be geared up for snow but just before Christmas we had about an inch of it and my bit of the state ground to a halt. The trucks were sliding about on the ungritted hills, cars were rear-ending each other. It was chaos.

Don't know. You need to ask a scandinavian that question.
It gets very hot and humid here in the summer and that isn't very nice either as others have said.

Its almost comical in NY....

When the first snow hits (usually July ) the papers are full of traffic accidents, its utter carnage as people have forgotten how to drive in the snow.....

Two months later, cars are bouncing off snow banks left by the plows, sliding backwards off the interstate verge, belting handicap buses,...not a word.
