I want to move back to UK.
Hello, I wish to move back to UK after 20yrs of living in the USA. I didn't move here by choice and have never felt settled in the USA. I moved here with my family in my teens....fast forward a few years.....things have just not worked out for me. I'm now a single parent with no real network of family and friends.
Is there anyone on here in a similar situation? I'm tired of being so alone. |

Where (which state/area) are you currently living in the US?
Do you have family in the UK that you are in touch with? |

I live in VA. Yes, I keep in touch with family back in the UK.

Even down to the same state :p I do have a USC Mrs who is long-suffering and ludicrously understanding tho. Are you going for it then? I have postponed my own repatriation until 10yrs time. |

Re: I want to move back to UK.
Before booking tickets and going you may want to sort out the legalities of taking your child with you, you may need permission from the father to move and you also have to get the child his/her UK passport if eligible.

I just need to book the flights, pack up and go. However, I've collected 20yrs worth of stuff. So, my biggest obstacle is trying to sell or donate most of it. I'll still have a few boxes full of personal stuff like photos etc. So, I'll probably still need the help of a moving company. |

Thanks for the advice but I've already sorted out the "legalities".

Don't use a moving company for a few boxes ribena, contact the airline you're using and they can send it cargo for you. It will go on your flight and doesn't cost much either. Good luck with your move.

I didn't know that was an option. I'll have to look into it more and compare costs. Thank you.

http://www.firstluggage.com/?id=356299 they do door to door service with boxes and extra suitcases from what I can tell. Saves trying to find a friend with a big enough car to pick you up. |

Yes, I think it's time to pack up and move on. Which is much easier said than done, since I've been gone for so long. I wish I had done it sooner but, such is life.
Why have you postponed your own repatriation? Still, all the best to you  - I d know what it feels like being here at times. |
