Default I want to move back to UK.

Hello, I wish to move back to UK after 20yrs of living in the USA. I didn't move here by choice and have never felt settled in the USA. I moved here with my family in my teens....fast forward a few years.....things have just not worked out for me. I'm now a single parent with no real network of family and friends.
Is there anyone on here in a similar situation?
I'm tired of being so alone.

Where (which state/area) are you currently living in the US?
Do you have family in the UK that you are in touch with?

I live in VA. Yes, I keep in touch with family back in the UK.
I'm going through the process of sorting through our belongings and deciding what to keep etc. It's all very over whelming and expensive.

All that sounds quite (eerily) familiar.
Even down to the same state
I do have a USC Mrs who is long-suffering and ludicrously understanding tho.

Are you going for it then?
I have postponed my own repatriation until 10yrs time.

Yes, I think it's time to pack up and move on. Which is much easier said than done, since I've been gone for so long. I wish I had done it sooner but, such is life.

Why have you postponed your own repatriation?

Before booking tickets and going you may want to sort out the legalities of taking your child with you, you may need permission from the father to move and you also have to get the child his/her UK passport if eligible.

Thanks for the advice but I've already sorted out the "legalities".
I just need to book the flights, pack up and go. However, I've collected 20yrs worth of stuff. So, my biggest obstacle is trying to sell or donate most of it. I'll still have a few boxes full of personal stuff like photos etc. So, I'll probably still need the help of a moving company.

Don't use a moving company for a few boxes ribena, contact the airline you're using and they can send it cargo for you. It will go on your flight and doesn't cost much either. Good luck with your move.

I didn't know that was an option. I'll have to look into it more and compare costs. Thank you.

We used Air Transat, i'm not sure if that's an option for you. I'd imagine most airline off the service tho. You're boxes/extra luggage can be collected a few hours after the fight has landed. It won't come out with your normal baggage, you'll need to go to their cargo hold to pick it up there but it's worth the little bit of hassel involved. When you book your flights ask about it, they'll send you the information and forms you need.

I noticed that BA does that and it directs you to another site.
http://www.firstluggage.com/?id=356299 they do door to door service with boxes and extra suitcases from what I can tell. Saves trying to find a friend with a big enough car to pick you up.

Its a bit of a long story, but basically, for us its the path of least resistance which (hopefully) will allow more fun and freedom later on. There are 5 of us to consider and to uproot everything for the sake of just one when it can be done better, later doesn't make sense anymore.

Still, all the best to you - I d know what it feels like being here at times.

Good to know! I will likely be in a similar situation. What if some of the items are breakable? Is this still a good method of transport, or is there a safer option?

I know how you feel I have been in the USA for 20 years also and I want to return to the u.k. Are you making any plans to return soon? I wish you the best of luck!
