Referring back to this closed thread: MM2H Foreigner e-gate
I was delighted to find recently that the foreigner e-gates at KLIA (1, not sure about KLIA2) are open and they work (tip: look for one with the little green LED lit, not just red and orange). Or MM2H holders can go to the dedicated immigration lane for Diplomats/MM2H. Saved me a lot of time!

I am delighted too! Could I please clarify: you just present your passport in the machine as you would in UK (assuming you have experienced that)? You no longer have to register before you can use them? My wife and I will be travelling back with our grandchildren in a few weeks time, so their passports should work too? Or only MM2H holders?

As far as I know you have to be on MM2H AND have registered your passport with the e-gate desk (they put a green sticker in it). I did that about three years ago. But as an alternative, I guess if you go to the Diplomat/MM2H channel (on that day it was desk 41, and there was no queue when I was walking past on a busy evening) they should be happy to process your grandchildren too because they're traveling with you.

Ok thanks for that Epicurious. I was hoping that with a new UK passport, and it's higher international security standards, registering was no longer necessary. I may give it a try then we will know for sure.

The most recent reference I can find is this:
https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nati...oreigners.Only passports with chips and that comply with the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) conditions can be used at these 'autogates'," he told reporters after an engagement session between the Immigration Department and travel agencies at KLIA here on Monday (Aug 8).
'He said foreigners holding long-term visit passes include those who work and study in Malaysia, expatriates, individuals married to locals, and participants in Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.'
So yes MM2H included, 'expatriates' too : )
Article says it starts next month.

Wasn't there earlier a discussion here about that in some cases (like visa extension or renewal and/or proof of residency), a proof of entry/exit would be required?
Which would require physical entry/exit stamps in the passport.
Would this no longer be an issue?

Pre-Covid (2019) I was standing in a long immigration line at KLIA, so I figure I'd have nothing to loose, and I applied for the E-gate pass. The guy looked at my MM2H page, then tapped away on the computer for a few minutes. He then placed a bar scan strip-sticker on one of my passport pages. He said the E-gate wasn't working at that time, so i headed back to the regular immigration counter. The bar scan sticker actually list my pp # and "Foreigner E-gate" on it.
I actually forgot I had this strip, so next time I go through KLIA I'll have to give it a try.

I also noticed that when I came into KLIA2 international last week the e-gates registration booth had been removed from its former location just after the Customs hall.
If you hold MM2H, but haven't renewed it recently, I'm not sure what you have to do to get the e-gates working.

Can confirm that no registration is required. I exited KLIA thru egate. My passport has the chip and had my MM2H visa transferred into it last December as old passport had expired. Not returning to Malaysia until xmas and will be via Penang so will be interested to see if I have issues as there is no exit stamp now and no egate in Penang.

A top tip is that at the main immigration hall of KLIA1, (registered?) foreigners can also use the regular Malayisan e-gates. Usually the queue there is longer than the foreigner section but I find the scanning process less fickle. The e-gates at the international-domestic transfer hall are older, look different and did not work for me (nor many Malaysians transferring too).
