I'm not sure I understand. Is it the blank line that would signal a
sig line? I thought that the dashes indicated a sig. line. At one time
it was so, with some neolithic newsreader I used to use.

The standard is a line with three characters on it: *two* dashes,
followed by a blank.

The signal for the beginning of a sig is two dashes followed by one
space and then start a new line

It should only be two. When I follow up to your posts, your sig is
quoted, whereas if it's a post with only two dashes, it gets deleted,
and saves the person following up from having to.

Your name should be part of the sig.

I'd forgotten that, and the sig is automatic with my newsreader anyway.

It is in mine, but I don't think it's against usenet etiquette to put it
in the main body as well- especially if you don't use your name in the
handle, which I suppose some people think isn't kosher either.
