No, there hasn't.

No.

For those who don't or won't realize it, "moderation" is a euphemism for
censorship. I'll take the so-called trolls in exchange for freedom of
speech.

No, just someone who wants to silence me any time he doesn't agree with
me--which is the exact purpose of moderation, of course.

I have a great deal of experience with moderated discussion fora, and I've
reached exactly the same conclusions.

Not many, but some. They are easy to recognize because they are nearly

Nobody is "in charge" of USENET.

Go for it.

Theoretically possible, but I've never seen it happen.

You're propagating a newsgroup over the entire planet just for that?

I think moderating would be a problem. There may be some reason moderate
some groups (it was done to comp.ai a few years ago, maybe six, and the
newsgroup has been much more useful since) however, I personally think that
recreational groups should be open and free to all speech.
This group isn't by any means the worst I have seen. And some of the folks
arguing are not trolls, per se, but members of this internet community,
with strong opinion.s
And many of the posts I find most boring, are indeed on topic, as the
perception of the United States and her residents to folks in Europe is a
valid topic for a travel newsgroup.
I would vote no to changing this newsgroup. A new moderated newsgroupg
would be fine, and I would vote for it, because I believe it would not
hurt this newsgroup.

Generally yes, a lot more than I do of rte threads, of course it's
also a local paper and for a different region of the country every few
weeks.

I can't imagine it would get the votes, I'd vote against such a
creation.

In a rather long thread so far, I've counted exactly 2 individuals who
support this proposal, one of them The Mighty Fascist. Add me to those
opposed.
