One of those bizarre tasting beers is called Mort Subite (sudden death). It
is fruit flavored, raspberry, I think. I was never brave enough to try it.
I din't believe the sudden death propaganda, but I guess I'm too much of a
traditionalist to go for fruit flavored beer.

Announcements in all airports are made in a special language. It is called
"loudspeakerese." I studied it in college, flunked. I tried to make it up
in summer school, flunked again. At the end of that course, my teacher told
me I was not gifted for languages. I'm still not:-)

Mort Subite is one brand. Other brands include Vandenstock, Lindemans, I
think Cantillon and Gambrinus, and probably another dozen or so.
These are variations on Gueuze beer. Most common flavoring is sour
cherry, kriek. In my book the best one. Raspberry is another one.
You have to keep into account that the fruit is added to the brew early on
in the process, so all sugars are transformed into alcohol and the result
is distinctly *a beer.*
Kriek is good. Best it to have it draft in a place where there is good
volume.
Places in Brussels where it might be worth stopping by and try these
include the "Roy d'Espagne" on the Grand Place (Grote Markt, central
square). A bit touristy but easy to find. If you don't mind the smoke
some of the upstairs tables are nice.
If you manage to find, close by, La Becasse, I'll owe you a
drink... (Apparently, the address is 11 rue de Tabora. Which was not
what I expected...)

Not bizaar at all. The fruit beers are fabulous! My favorite is the kriek
which is cherry. But you should get it on tap in a good place as then it
is not loaded with sugar. Mort Subite is one of many "brands".
Chocolate beer sounds like a London Beligan restaurant gimick. I've
never seen or heard of such a thing in Belgium.

I'll meet you there. But 'la becasse" is not that interesting a place.
Much more for tourists if you ask me.
The best kriek I've ever had was on tap at DE ULTIEME HALLUCINATIE R.
Royale 316, Brussels. It's artisanal and no added sugar. YUM!

More precisely *sour* cherries. Kriek in Dutch, griottes in French.

If you haven't been to De Ultieme Hallucinatie you should go. It is also
worth having a nice meal (probably better in winter!)
