Default Rome - Delhi: Emirates, Qatar, or Alitalia?

In planning our trip, I am still struggling with Rome -> Delhi leg and
would appreciate advice from all of oyu.

The only nonstop is an Italian airline called Eurofly. I have never
heard of them, and they don't seem known in these newsgroups either
(judging from the response to my previous post). The following feedback
(see FCO-DEL flight) also doesn't inspire confidence:

lineCode=GJ&showCodeshares=N>

So, despite obvious attractions of a nonstop, we are looking into
1-connection alternatives. The nonstop would have been approx 8 hours.
Reasonably efficient connections (Rom to Del in 11-12 hours) are
available on *Emirates*, *Qatar*, or *Alitalia*. Price differences are
minimal and not an issue.

Please advise which of these airlines would be most comfortable for a
11-12 hours flight? I have not traveled any of them. I would greatly
appreciate any advice. (If someone knows Eurofly and thinks it would be
ok, the time to speak is now!)

There is also Aeroflot, but I thought better leave them out ...

I'm also researching flights to Delhi; in my case I'm using
the One-World Alliance rtw ticket, so I'm restricted to
their carriers. I'll be going from Cairo.

On Wednesday and Fridays there is also a connection via
Amman from Rome on Royal Jordanian. A bit over 11 hours,
about two hours connection. Or you could do what I intend
and take a day trip to Petra before continuing on from the
Pyramids to the Taj Mahal.

From their web-site, using May 9 as an example:

Journey
RJ102
Economy Rome - Leonardo Da Vinci
Amman - Queen Alia International 09/05/2007
14:30
18:55
RJ192
Economy Amman - Queen Alia International
Delhi - Indira Gandhi International 09/05/2007
21:15
05:15 (+1)

Air fare cost
Type Travellers Net Tax
Total
Adult: 1 EUR 482,00 EUR 72,02 (details) EUR 554,02 each
Total: EUR 554,02

I've no idea how good or bad they are. Of the other
carriers, friends who have travelled with Emirates from Oz
to Europe love them.

Cheers, Alan, Australia

I checked out Skytrax and it doesn't even list Eurofly. In case you're
ever interested:

I'm working on a site that should give out this exact information, but
it's not up yet
Until then, I'm maintaining a group and a blog:

I am familiar with the above site, and wish you good luck with yours. I
came to this forum looking for individuals who may have any direct
experience or knowledge.

well. one day in Petra is very optimistic.
First of all. Petra is not on the main road from Amman and if you intend to
take a local bus you will have to stop at a junction and take a shuttle bus
to Petra.

or you can take a car.. and drive yrself
or take a car with drive. that will cost you about 50 dollars for a full day
( depending on yr ability to bargain )

But even a full day is little for Petra.
there are a lot of good hotels around Petra..
some for as little as 25 us dollars per person.

most of them will arrange transport to Petra entrance
( 1 to 2 JD for a taxi ride )

Thanks. 50 bucks would be fine - cheaper than what I've
seen; however I want to be sure of a reliable
English-speaking driver.

I'll be flying in and out of Amman on Royal Jordanian. Early
planning days yet, but likely to be in late afternoon
Friday, out to Delhi late Sunday in March. So actually a
little over 48hours. Timing is set by flight schedules; it
was serendipity as a stop, because I was originally going to
include Petra as part of the Nile cruise follow-on.

The airline has a service called "Zuwar" with stopovers and
tours. It looks interesting, with a full day tour with guide
for $147 (sounds dear from your comment):
http://www.rja.com.jo/ZuwarStopover/...4/Default.aspx

If anyone has used the service I'd be interested in hearing
from them. Another option would be to stay Friday night in
Amman and Saturday night in Petra, but that creates a risk
of delays for the critical 9pm flight Sunday with bookings
in Delhi. I might take the risk.

Anyone with experience in this area?

I notice this is crossposted to some Indian groups. I'm also
looking for advice on the Delhi/Agra/Jaipur triangle for a
short visit - 4-5 days. I'm happier to try trains and buses
there - but aircon, not basic.

For India travel advice, the best place is

To post question, you have to register, but it takes only a minute.
However, you are talking about popular places and a lot of information
may already exist.

If you can leave from Milan you can fly to Mumbai direct and then take
another plane to Delhi

Thanks, but for Rome->Delhi, that would be two changes. Even we skip
the nonstop, there are quite a few options requiring only one change.

I don't know if you simply must go to Rome in Aug/Sep, but I am
avoiding that part of the world at that time due to serious terrorist
threat.

Chances are that something will happen in Iran, Iraq, etc and major
European cities will be most vulnerable.

Because?

Evidence?

Why are European cities more vulnerable than US cities?
