Whether I want them or not, I also get a load of sex channels each of which
advertises subscriptions to British viewers, that cost more than I pay for the
80 or so channels I get on the cable.
Whatever BBC World costs me it isn't a lot :-)

I don't watch it enough to know whether there are commercial breaks or not.
If they are they cannot be as frequent or as long as the commercial breaks on
Dutch RTL TV, where if I scan through the channels the odds are that they will
all be showing an adverts.

We don't have News 24, we do have BBC Prime, BBC World and BBC1,2,3,4 and 2
channels of cBBC, when 3 and 4 are off the air.

Do you have a HD recorder? If not, you might like one. I usually start
watching a programme I want to watch on a commercial channel 5-15
minutes after it started. I just fast forward through the commercials!
Of course, you can do that just by recording a programme, but I find
this method more flexible.

News 24 is probably considered too 'provincial' which is probably true-
but it's not terrible. In any case, you can watch it live online.

No but we have two broken VCRs and one that may or may not be working in the
house.

Everything is repeated so often and so frequently, we can't be bothered
recording stuff anymore.

We've got one working one, but haven't used it for _anything_ for a few
years. We should really throw it out, but I haven't got round to
converting all the videos yet!

You still might like it though. For a start, you can decide when there's
a "break" in the programme, if you feel like doing something else. Do
you pay for cable btw?

That too- but surely they wouldn't be interested? It's very UK- centred,
albeit with the occasional half hour of world news...

'BBC World' varies depending on where you are, but it's still crap wherever
you are.
Now 'BBC News 24'...
Seems to be unobtainable outside the UK...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

Yes, I found the web-site, but I experience the same
interminable delays I do when trying to watch video on my
computer. Long pauses between nearly every word and the
next render most sentences incomprehensible. (I'm sure the
problem is due to my dial-up connection - especially here in
Arizona, where instead of the 56k I got in California, none
of Earthlink's access numbers provide more than 26.4k!)

BBC sound runs at 44Kbps on my PC.
Can you get ADSL/broadband or at least ISDN?

Lovely weather here in Chicago, scRunge, but the nice full moon we are
seeing in the sky at night is I believe a different one from the one
you gaze at...

Corruption and sleaze aren't things I've heard associated with Thatcher.
Can you elaborate a bit?
