La Poste Becomes Une Banque

Those use to the US postal system are amazed when
they see the number of banking services the French
post office has. Long before what just occurred,
the French have used the post office for its general
banking and investment services. Besides a checking
account, one can have a savings account (with up to
15,500 euros collecting 2% tax free interest) and
various "life insurance" stock purchase plans etc.
The problem is that the other banks don't like the
special privileges La Poste has had (e.g. Livret A)
and that will change in some respects. The Livret
A had the historical advantage that anyone could
open one, useful if one did not qualify for a
checking account.
**

Are they astounded when they discover that many other European post
services offer this too?

Hmmph. When I moved to the Netherlands from the US and found out about
giros, the most emotion I could muster was mild surprise.
Toilets with staging platforms, however, made my jaw drop.

There likely *is* foreskin in giro...
"Most store-purchased ground beef is a mixture of meat from multiple
sources (bulls, steers, cows, heifers) because ground beef is formulated
to achieve a very specific fat content. Trimmings from many sources are
combined."
