A guy sitting next to me in a plane told me he was a specialist working for a
company that made them. He said anything up to 50lbs.

http://aviation-safety.net/airlinesafety/exits/
"A320 "Approximate weight of overwing exits: 14.7 kg. (32.5 lbs.)"

"Boeing 757- 200 Approximate Type III overwing exit weight: 22.7 kg. (50 lbs.)"

Interesting that Lubeck were competent security. on September 16th
2001 (or so), I flew out of lubeck with my 2.5" pocket knife in the
webbing of my rucksack (I'd forgotten it was there until arriving back
at stastead and thinking, hmm...

Obviously they had improved in 2004. It was like the inspector already
knew there was something..... he ordered me to open the bag, found the
toilet case at once then the mini scissors (size 5cm) immediately. And
the bin was half-full with refused items.
