Germany in first week of April??

Germany in first week of April??
Is April 1st-8th typically too snowy/rainy/cold for the Munich and Rhine
river area?
Was planning my first European vacation for late May, but work schedules
either means this needs to be done either first week of April or last week
of June. I know weather in June would be nicer, but plane tickets seem 3x
as expensive and I'm told to avoid the "student season".
Am I better off going to someplace like Italy instead where the weather is
milder?
I've never been to Europe. Was planning on 4-nights in London, 4-nights
Paris, 1 week in Germany.

The weather is not predictable in april. It could be very nice and it

There's certainly a greater chance of bad weather in Germany in April,
but there are no guarantees anywhere. My daughter studied in Munich
one summer, and it was chilly and rainy for over a month in midsummer.
Italy usually has nice weather in April, but sometimes April is chilly
and rainy there as well.
Maybe you could keep that last week flexible. Arrange to fly to
Munich; you can at least enjoy the city even if the weather isn't
great. If the weather forecast is gloomy, take a train to Venice after
you've had a look at Munich. It's a 7 hour train ride, passing through
the Alps, with wonderful scenery. The trip costs 75 euros one way in
2nd class. Venice is enjoyable in all weather, maybe a bit less so if
there is flooding. However, there are other cities in northern Italy
that would be nice at any time. Verona is along the way from Munich to
Venice and is a good base for visiting other cities.

Personally I'd go in June. April is generally showery and changeable. June
is much more reliable. You'd be unlucky to get more than the odd snowflake
in the air - nothing should settle.
On the other hand, the variable weather in April can produce some nice
photographs and "moodier" memories.

Aha. So, in order not to appear rotten, a hotel should increase rates
during Summer months. It doesn't need to change anything in its offered
quality...a double rate will do.
I'm glad that several hotels and B&B's in our area have a better
perception of the difference between 'nice' and 'rotten'.

I don't recall a price difference between summer and winter in Bavarian hotels
and restaurants that I used, but there certainly was in French hotels and
restaurants I used. On the Cote d'Azur, prices increased between Easter and the
end of August, in the restaurants the quality decreased dramatically.
