MTRC came for free at AA. When AA upgraded a large part of its aging domestic
fleet with 737s, it ended up with planes that were larger than their
predecessors. To keep load factors up, they simply removed a few seats from
those larger planes to prevent capacity from rising too much.
Since 9-11, AA has streamlined its fleet/schedule to some extent, and will
accomodate increased demand on a smaller fleet by putting back those excess
seats that had been removed. (instead of buying new planes).

I've had that a few times, its very nice when you get it. And even better
when you get a middle row of 4 or 5 to yourself.
The other option I have heard of is, when travelling with a friend and
having 3 seats between you is one lies on the 3 seats, the other kips on the
floor, but some FA's dont like the floor idea.

So is there actually any more seat recline than steerage ?
If not what is your secret to getting better sleep in those seats ?

Havent checked it physically against cattle class seats but It reclined well
enough for me and has a lower leg rest like a recliner lounge chair and this
supports your body from the knees down plus the usual foot rest
The 7 inches extra gap alows my long legs to extend fully without going
under the seat in front.
Cant say anything else re actual specifications other than have a look at BA
site
I searched on "World traveller plus seating"
which says:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What is the seat size in World Traveller Plus, including the seat pitch?
Seat pitch is 38-inches, which is the distance from the back of your seat
cushion (where it meets the upright support) to the back of the seat in
front of you.
Seat cushion width is 18.5-inches.
Angle of seat maximum recline is 7".
Overall length of seat back upright is 26-inches.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
and
Your seat is not only wider and more comfortable, it comes with additional
recline, adjustable headrest, 4 way lumbar support, footrest and legrest.
Your personal in-seat entertainment system provides a wider choice of on
screen entertainment with 18 channels of the latest blockbuster movies and
TV entertainment as well as interactive computer games*
If you need to work, your seat is equipped with laptop power point and
individual phone.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I got 6.5 hrs sleep in one stretch on BKK - LHR last time in BA WTplus.

Last two trips between Australasia and the USA I've had a block of

for me, on the way back it was "just" luck...
I don't fit too well in just three seats... <g>

Yes, you do have a choice. But since I made a lot of money from my job, I
had great incentive to go. But I did fly business class.

was about 1983, and I seem to remember 5 seats, but a whole row allows me a
6'4" to stretch out.

Some airline's business class on short haul is often a total waste of
money, on some KLM routes there is little difference between economy
and business class, same seat pitch, same width of seat, same crappy
food for example.

Are you sure of that ? I was under the impression that some carrier at some
point in time had a 5 across in the middle (possibly with a 3-5-2 config).

I will happily challenge you, or anyone else, to provide some evidence
for that, fotos, seat plans, etc. I'm convinced you won't find any. So
convinced that I will attempt to eat the A330 on my desk if you do.
747s originally appeared with 3-4-2 layouts which fairly soon became
the standard 3-4-3. It was the wide body tri-jets that brought the 5
across middle seating arrangement, and I still remember a flight to
HEL(L), 13 hours in that middle seat, surrounded by Danish dentists,
with an IFE system that broke down and the supply of coffee that ran
out 5 hours in to the flight.

HEL(L), 13 hours in that middle seat, surrounded by Danish dentists,
with an IFE system that broke down and the supply of coffee that ran
out 5 hours in to the flight.

The safety announcement even said to read the safety leaflet in the seat

Well that was enough for me - that was my last voluntary Ryanair flight.
Bye Bye MOL.

On the other hand, I'm happy with the service. I'm flying to Stansted today for Euro 45 return. Stay for more than a few days and the airport parking is more than the flight !
And as they have ordered so many new planes, they just have to keep expanding their network.
For anyone interested I've put together a list of cheap flights going into Languedoc and NE Spain here : http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/la...ourism-air.htm
BTW, in a previous life, I commuted to the FE Business Class so I do know the difference !
