I think I did mention 'cheesing off' your neighbours earlier in the thread, somebody here once did say to me 'you may think that you do not have any neighbours, buy trust me you do' and if you cheese them off then expect the authorities to come a knocking on your door ! we have had first hand experience of neighbours looking after each other here and keeping an eye out for each other here, which is absolutely priceless and a fantastic return to 'community spirit' not seen in the UK since the 80's in my old industrial north area, and I applaud them whole heartedly....formidavel

I am pretty sure that the UK is not a member state of the EU. Seem to remember something in the news about this a few years ago.

One more thing, bureaucrats as you call them, do play a lot with google maps, and not just to look around for caravans but also illegal pools sheds and so on.
Agree and the world is changing fast. Even the laws of today can change and suddenly you have a new mayor, new neighbours, new technology. I see similar in Spain and some towns used to look away, now caravans might have to be removed and while others might get away with it, they have no permit and can't sell. Now you can use live satellite images and it's only a question of time when it's over.

Fair point.
However you will find the same criteria regarding the temporary import of road vehicles contained within the current three United Nations Treaties on Road Traffic (1926, 1949 and 1968), albeit not written in such an easily digestible format, which applies to all signatories to any of those Treaties, the many signatories include the UK and PT.

Sorry, but I have to contradict you again.
I live in the Vicentina natural park; there are hundreds of occupied caravans parked in the bushes down back roads, for years.

I am not advocating this as something people should do, nor am I saying they shouldn't. I'm only stating the facts as I observe them in real life.

This seems a pointless comment, unless you are actually trying to encourage someone to break the law. We all know that there are people who seem to "get away" with things, but that doesn't mean that regulations don't exist or that this will continue. Someone in my area drove a British registered car for years, apparently undisturbed. Until one day when they were approached by the GNR in the car park of a supermarket and asked to show their documents. Suffice it to say thay they have now returned to the UK.

Going forwards, it seems likely that the "deixe lá" attitudes of the past will tighten up, so copying what has been done before doesn't seem a good idea........

No need to take it back to the UK for an MOT, no need for expensive ferries, road tolls and diesel travelling backwards and forwards, and you get a lot more for your money with a caravan as you are not buying a vehicle with an engine, no need to tax it either, no need to buy a chunk of land and potentially cheese off your neighbours, no need to sink a bore hole, no need to create a drain feild and install a septic tank............next time you want to come over fly in (my kid fly's in to see me for a tenner each way sometimes) usually the site will be within cycling distance from a supermarket, so no need to buy a PT registered car etc etc ........all for about 1200euro a year so basically £1k rent per year, plus the extras when you are here.................simples !!!.......at least I think so then again I may the only one that does think so who knows.
Yes, this sounds far easier and quite a bit cheaper too.

And certainly easier and cheaper to adapt if things don't go quite to plan.
