So.. new policy to reduce the rate of population growth: government buys large numbers of Chinese made TVs and gives them to those families without? I think they could afford the extra electricity.

Also has the advantage of placating China after the recent S China Sea ruling.

May have to regularly check they haven't flogged or pawned it.

Greetings again,

My lovely lady has no great desire to visit the UK, which I found surprising and a little disappointing. She said maybe in 10 or 20 yrs time which I guess means never. I cannot get a straight answer about the reason why, but I think its because she thinks she will die within a day or two of stepping on English soil. Why? Simple. She will not be able to eat 3 buckets of rice per day and it will be cold and rainy. She also likes to get up at 5.30 each morning and go to bed early. I have told her that there are plenty of Asian restaurants about where she can get one fix per day of rice. Rain is a big problem for her and the maxim of *you only get once* is met with a blank expression.

Rain is a big no no for her. From rain, you can get all sorts of diseases ranging from Dengue to the Black Death. In fact, you can tell where we sit at a table on the beach because there is a deep furrow in the sand where we constantly traverse from table to restaurant and back when she thinks she felt a rain drop. Even though the amount of rain that falls is not enough to wash a mosquitoes underwear, it is dangerous and we must avoid at all cost. However, that all changes when its hosing down outside. If a couple of kids here are frolicking about in the rain, then she quickly dismisses thoughts of Dengue and the black death. She quickly changes into her bikini and frolics with them. I think the 20 -30 selfies provides some sort of protection ......but there you go. Another example of pinay logic.

I have no great desire to go back to the UK yet for a visit, although I do miss my sons a lot. When I do decide to go back which will be after divorce etc, I shall ask her to come with me. But I wont insist she comes. But it should be interesting because I believe she still thinks I want to go back to my estranged wife. The last time she thought I went anywhere near her was when I in the Uk and was met with a fb reaction from her. Her profile pic changed to a graphic photo of a cut wrist c/w blood and a razor blade. She threatened self harm but that's a story for another time. Happened 3 times....and only once here.

Visited her fathers house today. They are definitely moving. When I jokingly said that not many houses have a swimming pool, it was met with a baleful stare from her. They don't understand British humour....sadly. I mentioned previously that they are short of money. Her father stunk of perfume or whatever. He smelt like a gay brothel. Must quickly add, I have never been in one. My lovely lady is also an Avon rep and sold him expensive smellies. Just shows how devoid of money they are. Or logic.

Regards and thanks again
My wife Vaness, also a lovely lady (sometimes), prays for rain there and will happily walk in it as it's a relief from the steaming climate, and without an umbrella usually which she just uses as a parasol against the sun. Water is a precious commodity of course, and your gf really would have health issues to worry about without it. However, Obviously she's not actually wishing it never rained, and the fact she strips down and plays in it with the local children despite what she said about it carrying diseases, is indeed very strange logic? Given the religious beliefs over there, I'm surprised all Filipinos don't regard rain as a gift from god, rather than the 10 children many of them have, which indeed it is? Vaness lives in Muntinlupa, and frequently experiences stoppages to the water supply (nightmare), and she said that very recently, most of Metro Manila was without a supply for about a month due to a leak although I think she was exaggerating slightly which she is very prone to do. For a few days on the back end of the water problem, there was also a brownout (why don't they call it a power cut)? which really would have put me off ever going back there again if I'd been over there visiting at the time. We stay in a hotel so she said that most have a back up generator and their own water supply, but even so..... Now, if the Metro area can't guarantee water/electricity all year round, then what must it be like in the provinces?

If you lived in certain parts of the Metro area, you wouldn't need to visit a gay brothel to get a sniff of scent as ladyboys are everywhere, believe me. Talking about cosmetics, does your gf use face whitening products like almost every female in MM who can afford it? One visit, I had forgot to pack any aftershave balm, so went looking for a similar product in Mercury drug and other places but to my surprise (Not!), I couldn't find one without a whitening agent in it, yet it was for men, and I'm already pasty? I didn't buy any balm, and made sure I took some next time. A Filipinos skin colour is beautiful but its the obsession to look like a Western person, which is ridiculous. A Filipina has more chance of attracting a foreign guy if she actually looks like one, IMO. She said many there also buy whitening pills online, but I think that's dangerous.

We are in the multinlupa area

Water supply has never been better in the last 4 years with Maynilad being the supplier. High pressure and clean. The number of times that water disruption occurs is minimal and we are given 48 hours notice to top up containers in the case of such an event.
Longest out time was for 36 hours whilst main ring repair was being undertaken along the coastal highway.

Most hotels do not have a back up water supply. the cheap hotels may have had access to the groundwater supply, dirty and unsafe even for washing in. Cannot think of a serious hotel that is not mains connected with roof reservoirs to ensure reserves and great water pressure.

Most hotels have a back up power unit

They call it brown out as low voltage dims the lights and that seems to be the reasoning that the extension of brown out is power cut.

Well known fact here is that if you go to sleep with your hair wet, you will wake up blind.

As for skin whitening products, welcome to SE ASia

No idea what an after shave balm is, I just splash it it on all over and enjoy the 'sting', ensures I am awake and alive.

Thanks for responding. I use mineral water even for brushing teeth, just to be on the safe side. However, I'm such a germaphobe when over there because I'm always worried of getting sick and not being able to make the flight home. Interesting what you say about a reliable, clean water supply (and I believe you), and as I stated, she is inclined to over exaggerate at times. Yes, the desire for white skin probably isn't exclusive to just Phils,in SE Asia.Aftershave balm is a moisturizer that I apply after the actual aftershave to soothe my skin and it has some ingredients also found in aftershave. It makes sense, your reason given for why its called a 'brownout' and thanks for explaining it. Where in Lupa are you? She lives in a subdivision off the National Road.

we are in alabang. the tap water is not drinking water it is just filtered and and treated unlike the ground water wells that we used to have. We have either power or not as we have a voltmeter built in to the mains board.

Living on the edge of the jungle in Capiz, during the rainy season the only time I sometimes put the bore pump on is wash day. Rain water from the roof fills all the tanks, with the exception of drinking water, is used for everything else. My next door neighbour used to ask if she could get some water as she and her child were allergic to rain water, little did they know that what they were getting was 99% rain water, her son told my wife that our bore water was the best he had tasted. After 5 years I did tell her that is was mostly rain water she was getting.

Living in Manila or another major city I would not use roof water for anything except flushing the toilet due to pollution.

As for whitening potions/creams/pills here most contain arsenic and/or mercury both of which are very effective at whitening skin but also have a serious effect on ones health. "Mad as a Hatter" came from the hatters in Victorian times who polished hats with mercury to give them their shine. Arsenic was used as a cure for syphilis and turned the teeth enamel blue ( or green I can not remember )

I guess the whitening products there must work otherwise the shelves wouldn't be full of them, but I certainly didn't know of the health risks but the things many do for beauty..... We're lucky in Uk to have safe drinking water straight from the tap, and when I go over there, I miss that luxury but never mind.

Not so fast D-V! Depends where you are.

We had house in Munti (never heard anybody before call it 'Lupa, sounds like a disease!) back in the 90s. Had a deep well and we drank the water, after having it tested. It did need to be refrigerated first to improve the taste. Towards the end of our stay there it got a bit contaminated and we had to drill down further. Probably due to too much extraction by industry nearby.

Now we're in Tagaytay and I drink the subdivision water. It definitely tastes better than Maynilad's. And at a fraction of the cost in the UK. But, as is the way, my wife insists on drinking Crystal Clear!

Also, from my experience the taste of tap water varies a lot in the UK. For me soft London water doesn't taste good, but go north to hard water areas in Hertfordshire and it's much better.

I don't drink water from the tap, on its own over here. I mix it with cordial kept in the fridge and I drink lots of sugar free flavoured mineral water here. However, my point was, its 100% safe to drink regardless of the taste, unlike in Phils. When I've been there, and had to use mineral water (10 peso bottle) to clean my teeth, its somewhat of a luxury to be back using tap water when I return although I'm probably being just a liitle bit too cautious? Lupa is obviously a shortened version of Muntin, (its only me who uss it),'and even though its my wife's home (although she was born in Pasay) you actually saying it sounds like a disease made me laugh because its not a clean, nice place to live. We always get a rented condo or stay in a hotel when I visit her, which really is my kind of place, despite the expense. My first 3 visits were spent at her place in Lupa, which was enough times for me quite frankly. Also, I notice its even hotter there than Makati which my wife says is because of air pollution, when I asked her if she also noticed it, but I'm not sure if she's right? Yes, there's a million jeepneys also in Maki. and even more cars etc but the air generally is cleaner or so it seems to me. Imagine, for example an area here in UK like the bus terminal outside Starmall in Alabang, which leaves me feeling very nauseous even with a flannel over my face against the vehicle fumes. You'd probably take 5 years off your life if you inhaled that everyday. All the best....
