LTO

I have been driving here for the last 18 years and never had an issue with renewing my driving license, be it for 3 or 5 years, until today.

My license expires tomorrow, 3 weeks ago I called in with my certificate to show I passed the on line test, just to confirm what else may be needed. I was told nothing else needed you can renew anytime before october 4 ............... not so it seems.

I was told I cannot renew my license as I am a foreigner. I pointed out that I have been a foreigner for the last multiple times the renewal process has been completed and accepted, so why not now?

Answer: All foreigners have to report to head office LTO in Quezon city to renew their license. I asked if that includes if I live in Mindanao or Cebu? answer , YES.

I will write to Lto, copy of the office of the President for clarification/ confirmation.

I am starting to think that being away from here will best serve my mental health, what there is left of it!!

That sounds like total and utter stupidity...it cant be true... Can it ????

Renewed mine for the 10 years last week, nice and straightforward in Makati. Friend renewed his last week in Paranaque , although he had a couple violatations and they had to be removed by LTO in Quezon City.. no other offices seemingly could remove them .

I've just sent an enquiry on the LTO website and will revert with their response.
In essence it sounds that someone is either having a bad day, or, they are experiencing some financial crisis.

I looked on You tube and there is a 6 month old video there where a foreigner tried to renew his licence in a Robinsons LTO in Las Pinas. Then told it couldn't be done there due to missing software and to go to Las Pinas LTO. Where it was renewed and there was Senior priority given. So instead of writing letters it looks like it can be done at a number of LTOs in the South Metro.

Another case where someone in a branch govt office gets things completely wrong. I suffered from that with a satellite BI branch earlier this year.

Renewed mine locally about 2 weeks ago.

So where will the locals go to renew if there is a problem with the site?

Or if not those, you could try the new one opposite Landmark and above Ansons. Its small with freindly service staff, espeically for seniors. The line for the above Ansons one generally starts about 8am to 8.15 if you want to be the first in line.

All done and dusted today at the new ayala linc centre in makati, start to finish took an hour . Only one potential issue they wanted me to log in to their portal. i advised did not know how as i do not have the password and was not advised by the on line process flow chart to bring it. I suspect from what I could see that applicants were being tested with a LTO officr invigilating, so the earlier above suggestion re fixers may be true.. Any way all done

I also wrote to LTO as a formal complaint, copy to the office of the president
