I spent a bit of time in OZ. Nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there!

  • I won't mention the weather because it's so varied throughout both Oz and NZ, but despite choosing one of the hotter areas of NZ, I think I would like even less winter and a more consistent summer- but that's a real horses for courses because you lose the greenery etc.
  • You are further removed from commercialism in NZ, which is sometimes a good thing but then sometimes frustrating when everything you want costs the earth or can't be found.
  • My understanding is that the aboriginal people of Australia have had an even harder time of it than the Maoris, which is just sooooo shameful. :curse:
  • Traveling around and exploring NZ is more doable
  • I happily let my children roam and explore in the countryside here in NZ- it would take me a while to reach that level of comfort in Oz!
  • Wages ARE lower in Oz than NZ, but that doesn't mean YOU will get a higher wage in Oz than NZ (we would).

Just a few thoughts
Oooops! Obviously I meant that they are HIGHER in Oz! Sorry!

I spent time travelling in OZ and NZ last year, I'm now a resident of Wellington and loving it so far, so you can see which country I loved more, thought Melbourne is a great and vibrant city it is pretty huge, whereas even Auckland feels small in comparison.

Its about your priorities, start with a big list, write down all the good and bad things about each location, and whichever has more positives than negatives is the right move for you, it sounds a bit obviously but getting things down on a big bit of paper will focus your thoughts a bit better

I'd chose NZ everytime and glad I did, I liked bits of Aussie, but I loved bits of NZ, and I think the locals are nicer in NZ and feels more like the UK, while aussie seems to want to attach itself to America

I think we are now really shifting towards NZ,
OH family offering to put us up in a furnished house rent free for a few months, so I think hold on to shipping our stuff get a feel of the place see if it's ok for a few months, if yes ship our things!!! If not hop over the pond and give that a go!! not only do I think we have a plan but maybe a good one. (we applied for a oz visa so no probs with living in either).....:-)

Seems like an excellent plan. It'll give you a chance to look round both countries properly.
