Excellent to hear that, Jude, thanks! :) My littl'un is all about recycling, it's so sweet seeing her ask which recycling bin something goes in. :)

How cute! My experience of recycling in the States is limited to what I know from an episode of Blues Clues where they have 3 bins in the kitchen for recycling! Is that what you have?

yes! we dont get ours picked up but in town there is a huge recycling bit - you dont pay for proper recycling - like glass, newspapers, cans, plastic bottles - just put it in the right bins that are there. Most of our friends here have bins that they divide the recycling up into - very nice to see.

Actually we can mix ours all together in a big blue bin that we put out for free once a week. But we tend to put rubber, glass, tin cans and plastic together in one bin, and paper and cardboard in another. We have virtually no actual rubbish to put out. :)

There is a program on here called The Filth Files, horrible eh?! Anyway, last week I watched it out of curiosity, and there was a bit on a landfill site in Wellington where these men were paid to go through landfill bags to see what people are throwing away, that should be recycled! Horrible job! But I was shocked at the bags full of stuff that really shouldn't be in there!

In Rotorua there is no recyclable collection. We take all our to the recycle centre in town. It is really well set up and very busy.

What if you don't work? :)

Or are self-employed like a gardener who works alone (and possibly for cash) for example?

its like that in parts of UK now. In york they go round and see if you put the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin, left your bin out a day too early, or not with the lid down or not put out in the right place, then put a ticket on it saying where you should have put it. if they can walk to it then why cant they tip it.... then theres the places that micro chip your bin, weigh it on the wagon then bill you for your waste or fine you for the other mideeds

Rant over

It is universal cover, so covers kids and people not working, self employed, temporary visitors, everyone. You may not get the full cost of treatment, but it should be havily subsidised and it depends on the nature of the injury and treatment required.
If you are self employed ACC levies are a cost of business, just like paying your tax bill.
More info here: http://www.acc.co.nz/.

It is effectively a very large insurance scheme. It is not always full proof but the majority of the time it seems to work.

I am all for any measures that start people acting responsibily and stops the countryside turning into one big landfill. If everyone does their part the problem is much reduced.
