Moving to Dunedin 2012

Just a thought, but why should New Zealand (and Oz for that matter) engage in the pitiful game of Association Football in order to entertain a load of immigrants? (Which is what we are by the way).
Just saying.
Just saying.

Well, barnsleymat, I'm one expat who can't stand the place! When flathunting saw some of the crappiest flats we've seen anywhere in NZ in Dunedin. And when we eventually got a place couldn't get the bed up the stairs to any of the bedrooms. When viewing the flats you'd think folks would at lest make their beds and clean the place up a bit. And it was cold as hell in the winter down there. Dunedin makes Auckland seem sophisticated. Just my view.

You're sounding like a proper Jafa about the weather, it's nothing compared to a long cold Yorkshire winter, they don't know what snow is! I was out running up John Wilson Drive every night all through the winter, I must be made of tougher stuff!!!!!

If football is such a non sport in NZ why does English football feature so heavily on NZ national news? It was Everton at Cheltenham goals earlier. Can you imagine the BBC News every day showing the tries from that rugby union league in 80% empty stadiums over here. Go to rebel sports and see all the football shirts etc, try buying a Auckland Blues shirt on a UK high street!
Live English football isn't ever going to be popular over here, due to the fact it's on in the middle of the night. But football does cause a lot of interest

However, I will continue to try to understand rugby ( after 7 long years )which is the only sport in the world incidentally in which the only person who knows why the referee keeps blowing his whistle every 30 seconds is the referee.

Because football is watched and played by most of the planet and rugby isn't. Furthermore as a moderator on an immigrants website I thought you might have been a tad more sensitive. Just a thought.

Aren't we immigrants then? I think that sometimes, some people forget that.

If you like Northern and Scottish weather then you'll love Dunedin - it's much the same, but windier and without insulated homes so you'll be almost as cold inside as out. Not quite as dark in winter, but that's about all you can say for it. The steep hills surrounding town give it a microclimate which makes things much worse than even 50 miles to the north.
