Re: A little positivity please!!!
I spent a few weeks in the north island and loved it
I hope to move to NZ in the next year or so
By the way flower pot, i lived in Liverpool for a year and thought it was great despite all my mates telling me about the negative stereotypes
Still the weather is a bit grim up north and some parts of Liverpool near the football grounds is horrible
When your from the west midlands, anything is a step up!
NZ will have its problems, but the whole experience of learning about a new country and the adventure of meeting new people is too hard to turn down
As long as I got a job and a roof over my head, the freebies on offer in NZ will keep me happy!

Re: A little positivity please!!!
Well there seem to be a few negative threads appearing lately that are starting to pee me and the hubby off... :curse:
As new immigrants arriving in 7 weeks time we would like some positive vibes please!
Yes we understand people want to show the flip side of emigrating to New Zealand and that it's not all sweetness and light but come on, some people are making it sound like Beirut!!!
We'd like to invite you to post your positive experiences of New Zealand and renew our faith in the new country we are moving too
NO NEGATIVE NELLIES PLEASE

Re: A little positivity please!!!
The reason so many live abroad is because NZ is so incredibly isolated. There is nothing wrong with NZ per se..just like there is nothing wrong with the UK. One is stupidly overcrowded and the other stupidly isolated. I expect and hope my kids will go away from Nz for an extended period of time. There is so much to see and do and NZ can be a bit insular. On the positive side I cannot think of another place on earth I would rather raise my kids. I do feel incredibly safe here (when not driving in my car..alas the driving over here is terrible!!) unlike in Northampton where I felt always under threat such were our appaling crime stats. I love NZ as much as I did 5 yeears ago. Sure stuu annoys me about the place like it will you guys avo 5 years but I am soooooooooooooooo glad me and my family are here. We have lives here we could only dream of in the UK. Life in NZ in the main is a breeze for us. I understand for many life can be hard here. One man's meat.......

Re: A little positivity please!!!
What about positive NELLIES FP?????
I remember being in the UK & reading all the negative threads & it can really pull you down when your emotions are already on a roller coaster ride.
I know you are realistic in your expectations of life in NZ & you are lucky enough to have your parents here. On top of that, you have a ready-made network of people who will do their best to support you both & will become your friends too.
Looking forward to seeing you in the Pacific Bar in a few weeks
I'd much rather be living here than in the UK, though I'm like your Mum & miss M&S too, especially the Per Una stuff.

I miss being able to browse though, looking on-line is not the same. I miss the food section too!

Maybe one day we will have an international M&S open up who knows! If there is enough interest from onliners they may consider it. Great to browse as you say, not the same as actually being touchie feely with the clothes is it when you are online.

One positive thing we experienced in NZ was being given a police escort to Auckland Airport to catch our flight to Christchurch after being given a speeding ticket!! In Scotland they would have laughed at you and left you!

I’ll like New Zealand because it is a young country filled with great new possibilities. We have the very real chance in New Zealand to leave behind the archaic beliefs and glacial systems that shackle the old world. There may be much room for industry and nurturing of innovation in our beautiful country but in many ways that’s actually a good thing, New Zealand has never been a country where “sticking to what you know” works well. We have constantly adapt ourselves to ever changing demands in a drive towards progress, whether the winds of change worked for us or against us. Everything we need to survive and thrive is here in New Zealand be it food or gold, wine or wood.
We can make New Zealand a great place to work, live and prosper. This is a country built by immigrants who came looking for better lives and a fresh start, united together as people who dared to dream of a new future. In that tradition we have the potential to not only to prosper and succeed in New Zealand but also to write history as a nation that throws caution to the wind and do things differently. The important history of New Zealand has yet to be written and we are only at the dawn of the coming age in this newly populated land.
Whenever I’m frustrated at New Zealand it’s not because I don’t see potential in New Zealand, it’s because I see abundant potential and have high expectations. We will succeed, just as those who first came saw only thick forest inhabited by warring tribal savages succeeded in building a democracy littered with farms and houses prospering on fertile land .
