Near Linkwater.
Woke up this morning to find a selection of fresh home grown tomatoes on the outside table.
So free - if you ignore the rent we are paying.
Close to Picton but Queen Charlotte Drive is in a really bad state so the area has similar problems to the Coromandel with roads being wiped out by slips
Bet it's warmed than the -3 we have here in the UK

We are a bit hot and humid today. Good for tomato and sweet corn ripening. These are grown outside.

Has anyone noticed the trend for massive upselling of tomatoes and other veggie entrees and side dishes of late; no wonder hospo trade is struggling, who the heck is willing to pay $25 or more for a portion of veggies. I am seeing menus with entrees or side dishes of 'Heirloom' Tomato Salads, Roasted Carrots and Cauliflower Steaks going for as much as $27 a pop.

Before long we'll all need security locks on the fridge and pantry to keep the eggs, cheese and veggies away from opportunistic thieves.

Yesterday's laugh out loud moment was: Miso-roasted Egg Plant for $33.50 - not so long back you would at least have got you a decent steak dinner for $33 bucks.

The wonderful new emissions tax and the ever expanding pine plantations will push prices up even further, as farmers reduce the number of livestock as the paddocks they feed on disappear. Cindy said it will turn NZ beef and lamb into "premium" products. I think that means unaffordable to the rest of us.

Especially if you want some chargrilled lettuce on the side.

Just had some outdoor grown cucumber from a local market.
$2 as it was getting late.
(That is around 3 pm in NZ).

What a bargain (not)! I assume likely cost in the UK would have been 50p at most in the height of summer, or maybe 'three for a pound' if the market was packing up for the day .

I know food prices are stupidly high at the moment , but I do think a couple on their jolly holidays should have something a bit more appetising for tea than munching on each end of a telegraph cucumber. 😱

It was a really good cucumber as well.
Pleasure is where you find it.

But do sell half a celery, which I always found odd.
