Re: Where is left in the UK thats nice to live
When the weather is as nice as it's been today and yesterday England is the best place in the world to be. Being able to go for a bike ride at 1830 and not come back till past 9pm makes up for the 4 o clock curfew in December!
Sunday evening I was cycling down little country lanes, thru fields, past farms and thatch cottages and little villages,(Netley Marsh, Ower, Copythorne, Winsor, Newbridge, Cadnam, Bartley, Woodlands) birds singing, bluebells still just about out. Came thru one of the New Forest campsites too (Ashurst), funny to see two Moslem women in full black outside their tent. Only blackspot was stopping to eat an orange above the rail line from London to Bournemouth and finding it black inside.
Sir John Barleycorn pub at Cadnam - funny to see its long thatched main building and next to it the thatched 'outhouse' - one of the few pubs still with an outside loo.

County Durham, Tyneside etc.
Fabulous coast, countryside and very nice cities (Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle itself.)
Super cheap housing in nice towns & villages (South Shields, Durham, Easington etc.)
Really good public transport.
Friendly locals.
(Beer is mediocre, though )
