We're going back (yippee)
We have decided to go back to the UK. Perth is now grating on me big time, the small town mentality is just too much. I miss so much about the UK, we had gone back previously because of missing family and then ended up back in Oz because we felt we hadnt really spent the time required here, now after 4 long years I am truly sick of the place.
Sadly we have to wait 7 months because we want to take our dog, so tomorrow he has his chip and rabies vaccine and the countdown will then start. Any advice from anyone about current situations in the UK/requirements let me know! |

Had my cats jabs done in Dec and they can fly out on June...yippee!! Just need to sell my bloody damn house now:curse: |

Yes Perth isnt the nirvana its sometimes painted to be. I made the mistake of writing a letter to the West Australian saying that I thought the trading hours should be extended and I got shot down in flames. They want Perth to stay stuck in the 1950s I think.
Good luck with the house! :) We went to Ikea on Sunday, it was bloody shut:lol:...should have known better. |

Wow, another one:ohmy:. Perth certainly does seem like the place people get sick of the most after emigrating to Australia. Good luck with your move back. It won't be long until you are home in the UK:thumbsup:
I'm on the same timeline as you with my cat's and moving back, except I'm in the US. Will be moving back to Scotland in June or July. Can't wait. It is so exciting that it is getting so close now.:D |
Re: We're going back (yippee)
All the best for your move - the 7 months is going to fly by and you will be home just in time for Christmas!

Am going to open a bank account with HSBC so that it can be transferred to the UK. Not impressed with the $120 charge though. Have decided to sell some of my furniture as it probably wont fit over there, and have already started to sell my DVDs on ebay. Am a bit worried about finding somewhere to rent in the UK as I have seen some comments regarding 6 months up front which is a bit worrying, plus we have 4 kids which might be offputting to some (even though they are well behaved and lovely). |

Good luck with your move back here to UK. We moved back in november of last year.
You will find it all very exciting (especially the shops) as someone said you will be back in time for xmas, I was walking round the shops in amazement, i forgot what great variations there were!!! Dont forget if you got kids, sign up for your child benefit within 3 months as you wil loose it if not. Take your time looking for a house, we were gonna buy something a lot cheaper in not such a nice area, Im glad we stretched ourselves and bought in a nice area, as I think it would of been harder to settle if we had had to do up a property, and working it out by the time we had bought the materials and stuff to do it we werent really saving (in my opinion). We got the kids into school as soon as we got back and I think that really helped them settle down. You will find your feet dont touch the ground when you first come back, what with house hunting and work etc, make sure you make a bit of time for yourself though or you will find yourself getting stressed!!! Finally, you will have days when you think have you done the right thing, I still do miss friends and little bits of Perth, but for now we have deffo made the right decision coming back here, thats not to say one day we might come back to Oz but not Perth, even my daughter who stayed in Perth reckons crime and stuff is getting worse there, so its not the utopia people think it is... Good luck.. BTW we used Dog Tainers to bring the dogs back, they were blimmin excellent and even bathed the dogs before delivering them fat and healthy back to our house and we paid about 65 pounds and instead of picking them up from the airport they came to the house, well worth it. Kath We will be renting as we are poor :( How much did Dog Tainers cost in total? Was the 65 quid just delivery from airport to you? |

Dont know yet.....have previously lived in Sussex, Somerset, Scotland and Yorkshire. Am looking for somewhere where my OH can find work. He is a CNC machinist. Dont want to live in a huge city though. Maybe somewhere in the West Country or Yorkshire.
