Unfortunately it's part of my job to watch it, among others. No way would I watch this crap if I had the choice....but what I said was gospel truth...that's the way it is in many parts of Britain, especially the urban areas but druggies are in the rural areas too.

Even here in Edinburgh a female local Labour MP was recently mugged and severely beaten up in Cockenzie by a group of blootered crackhead neds and she is still in a bad way psychologically. You guys moaning about problems where you are out there in the sunshine of "foreign parts" had better stay put and count your blessings you are no longer in Brown's Britain where every day the news is bad news.

The only reason I come into this Forum is that one day soon I hope to get out of this f****g litter strewn, ned infested country. Count your blessings, guys.

I know that this has been said time and time again.

But I would like to add that Britian has always had this some level of this problem since the 60's at the very least.

My dad grew up in a rougher area of yorkshire, the things he did embarass me even now. I hesitate to tell the forum these things because it is the Dirty Past of britain that no one seems to remember or know about. Packy Bashing - this is when a gang of soccar lads went around after the games with a cricket bat beating up people of obvious indian background. This was in the late sixties. I think that now-a-days we have less tolerance. I personally think it should be zero tolerance, but hey who i am i to judge. I listen to my dad ramble, and i just nod, because he is one of the old stubborn yorkshire men that just get grumpier and more opinionated with age.

I agree completely. People talk as if stabbings only just started happening in the last couple of years, but I know for a fact it was common back in the 60s and 70s when I was growing up there. (And I grew up in pretty nice places.)

Same with drug use and drinking. They're nothing new.

I'm sure we were the same -- as each new generation comes up it "discovers" the reality of the world around them.

The thing about people who say that the UK is a sh*thole and imagine that the rest of the world is somehow better, just don't know the truth. Where I'm living now there are murders, drug use, alcoholism, bad traffic, people on welfare, etc. etc. etc. What you see on the telly (Wisteria Lane!) isn't how it really is!

And thats just in the suburbs..

I come from the same place as Silly Sod and have to admit, this kind of crap has been going on since the 80's and nothing is going to change it...will it get worse...probably...can you do anything about it...probably not but you can make sure YOU don't go down the same road as the rest of your friends..I've moved on from Salford but I grew up on the streets...I saw all my friends have babies at 13 or 14 yrs old and doing drugs with their boyfriends...me...I knew I wanted more from my life so I finished school, went to college and got a great job..and the rest is history..

Just because you grow up in a shit hole, it doesn't mean you have to become a part of it..

I seriously don't know whether to laugh or cry after reading this post. I can't believe for one second that you think where the sun shines these things don't happen......, do you? All the above things you have mentioned not only do happen, they happen on a daily basis. I don't know where it is you want to migrate to, but I would say that you really have a great deal of homework to do before you leave Scotland if these occurrences are the reason for you wishing to leave.
