Our second baby is due in four weeks and so we had decided that we wouldn't try to make a definite decision just because my wife especially doesn't need that stress right now. However, she has told me a couple of times after her mother has stressed her out that she can't wait to move to the UK! So it's looking pretty likely at the moment that we will go, but obviously the baby has to be our priority for a while. Maybe that will help me to get my mind off of the move and stop refreshing this forum every five minutes to see if there are new posts. :D I saw your post in another part of this site also...we're going through similar things I'm due with our second baby together on September 6th. I'm the one (usc) that really wants to move to England so my hubby can see his 5 kids again that are there in the UK. He loves it here in the U.S. but says wherever I am is where he wants to be so if i want to move the UK than we will...but warns me it will be hard because of the housing prices. I'm registered on rightmove.co.uk which is an awesome site if you're looking for housing all over the country...so Jeremai where will you be going when you go back to the Uk? We'll probably be going back to a town called Witham or near there maybe Colchester or Chelmsford....his kids are in Witham and miss him terribly. I hope to move there next March.... Carey |

Stay where you are.
The UK is not the place you left or knew. |

I've only known Michigan so it must not have been directed to me..lol What a generalisation (even used the english s instead of z) to say about anywhere...How can you say the whole country is not the place you left or knew? Have you lived in every place in the UK to be able to say this? Just wondering...just sounds like a way to shoot down someone's plans or dreams to me.... Carey |

Carey Yes, I am registered on rightmove.co.uk too and spend way to much of my work day on that site, daydreaming! I want to be as close to my family as possible (Surrey & Berkshire) but the prices down there are just ridiculous. Milton Keynes is the closest "affordable" place I can find, with houses around the 110K mark. The housing estates there are apparently not the nicest areas, but I'll take what I can get (I'm relying on making a big profit selling our house here to be able to afford even a "cheap" house in the UK!). I live on a nice street here in Baltimore but there are extremely rough areas just a mile away here too. It's not like we make a habit of walking around after dark anyway. I look forward to hearing how things are going for you. |

After watching shows on BBC America like the one where people go to auction to buy properties and fix them up 110k sounds way cheap or House Doctor where most of the houses are way more than that I wish you luck finding a cheap house. I noticed that housing in Gravesend in Kent is pretty cheap...Does anyone on here know about that area? Carey |

Re: Thinking about returning (yep, another one!)
Here is a house I found on Rightmove for 115K. It is a bit yucky on the outside but the inside looks very well kept. And it is NOT on the Lakes estate (as all of my earlier finds!). I'm not sure what Bradville is like as an area, but as I've said before, I'll take a rougher area in order to afford a house.

Re: Thinking about returning (yep, another one!)
115K won't buy you much anywhere nice. At least not 'down south'. That said, there are some bargains to be had - we bought our house in 2001 for 84k and it has just been valued (realistic valuation too) at 230k. You do have the benefit of a buyer's market - but don't hang around expecting a house price crash any time soon - prices here (Cotswolds) stayed fairly static after the interest rate rises, but this month started rising again.

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetai...=buy&ep=via_sl I'm finding plently of houses around this price. It just depends if people are willing to take them. It might not be the best area but buying a house doesn't mean I have to live there forever. |

I noticed that quite a few people in Lansing might have a crappy looking outside (like it needs painting or siding put on) but you go inside and it's immaculate...i'm not sure if they do this to keep burgulars away or just too lazy to get outside and fix up the outside of their house. I agree about not having to live there forever as well. It's just a place to get yourself restarted there. Isn't rightmove just the greatest..it is good for daydreaming!! :) Carey |
