Hmmm. Ah yes, grey skies, cold, wet, everything slimey. Algae grows on almost every surface possible.

Personally I think you are looking at the UK thru rose tinted whatsits.

It's lovely when the sun shines (part from the fact that that is pretty damn rare, and everything squishes.)

Last years UK summer needs to be put in some perspective. Yes it did rain nearly every day during May June and July (I was there) but just like the cool (QLD standard) wet summer weather here in Queensland at the moment its not a normal occurance, a once in so many years statistic. Its rained here pretty much nearly everyday since Christmas and today being no exception. Flash flooding all over south east queensland and serious flooding further north during the last few weeks. Get a wet evening and like tonight its almost dark by 6pm and thats on a summers day:thumbdown:
As others have suggested the heat and humidity here make it so unbearable its a struggle to do anything outdoors during a normal summer's day here.
If I had to choose between a UK and Oz summer the UK wins hands down, thank goodness I'll be back:thumbsup:

You live in a cave:ohmy: The UK weather is perfect IMO, today is like a spring day warm and sunny, and except for last year we have had lovely summers since I have been back with cold frosty winters with some glourious sunny days...its a treat after the horrid heat of Perth mate.

Try having to empty out every water container in the garden every other day cos of dengue mozzies breeding in them...........and algae in every fish pond cleaned out weekly .

I really DO understand the perspective/ excitment/ UK negativity of someone who is not out here, all I am saying is don't knock what you have now, cos it is a shock to the system out here.

Some people embrace it and love it (live the dream), others just don't and cannot cope. You have to experience both before you can make your mind up.

Axxx

I agree with all the posters who have said it is just too hot in Australia. Imagine surviving it without aircon or a few showers everyday. With the environmental problems Australia is facing those two lifesavers may not be an option in the future.

Until you have lived there there is no way you can know if it is a better lifestyle to be in the heat. If people complain that they spend too much time indoors in the UK escaping the cold, then they may actually find they will spend the same amount of time indoors escaping the heat in Australia.

I think the UK weather is ideal. Not too hot and not too cold. Enough change to make it interesting. Lets just hope the concerns about the path of the Gulf Stream which gives us this lovely weather come to nothing.

Just wanted to add. We are in London. The sun is streaming through my window so much I have had to draw the curtains. The birds are singing so prettily and when I look out the window I can see the beautiful twisted shapes of leafless trees, the bright green of the grass in our back garden and the field over the back, and a church steeple. In my garden beds there are carpets of green shoots with the occasional splash of dark yellow crocus. Cannot wait to see what else bursts out from these shoots. That is another element I missed. The anticipation of changes in the seasons. The waiting for and noticing buds on branches. The change of colour in the leaves before they fall.
And this is all in apparently dirty and grey London!

Well, wrto mozzies. One trick is to supply them with plenty of breeding sites that can be easily emptied. Then once a week, or whatever time period works, empty them into a jar, and pour the water back thru a tea strainer.

Where we are, they breed like crazy in the nearby rice fields, because people aren't seeding the rice fields with small fish like they do in some countries. We just don't go out after dark much during the worst months.

In the UK, we certainly don't live in a cave. Today has been delightful, sun all day. Of course it isn't strong enough to dry things out, so we have to run the tumble drier every damn day for half the year if not more. Plus the number of genuinely sunny days here is very small.

As for the UK weather being ideal. Maybe for some, but not for me. I don't like semipermanent cloud cover thank you very much. Oh, and before you jump to correct me, take off the rose tints, and take a long hard look at the weather. I am used to having people tell me I exaggerate, because I know damn well that I don't. Over here, if the sun shines for ten minutes, everyone starts raving about what a lovely day it is.

Bah humbug. We get so little good weather here that everyone is conditioned into weeing themselves with excitement if the unusual round yellow thing peeks out from behind a cloud for more than 5 minutes.

I hear a lot of people saying the people who leave the UK do so because they have been looking at their destination with rose tinted specs.

Well, from this end, let me tell you, I listen to some of the comments on here about people raving about how wonderful the UK is, and my honest thought is that they are talking about some other, fantasy country.

That is of course unless your fantasy involves drunks puking and p*ssing in the streets, crime thru the roof, prices thru the roof, cr*p weather, and corrupt politicians, and above all having to live cheek by jowl with some of the least smiling people on the planet.

Sounds like you live in Brisbane!

Not quite.

To be honest, I dislike urban environments, and prefer a quieter rural existance.

It's true tho. Pay attention to what is happening and you'll see I am right.

Trouble is, people just remember the good days and the sunshine, and we edit out the dull days.

It took me decades to realise what the weather in the UK was really like.

The weather in the UK is perfect, not to hot and not to cold and getting warmer year by year, I thought I liked it hot and sunny, but when you cannot even go outside it gets beyond a joke and when it rains it Oz it rains for days and days on end, give me the British weather anyday, you do not realise how great it is till you come back from a dust bowl, did you know the main reason so many return fron Spain....yeh, you guessed it......the heat.:(

Mate, you slay me. Perfect? Well, if you are an arctic duck down here for the summer, maybe. The UK has a limp dick of a climate. No good for anything.

Do you know how you tell the seasons in the UK?

Grey skies, cold, wet and there are no leaves on the trees = winter

Grey skies, cold, wet and there are some leaves on the trees = spring

Grey skies, cold, wet and there are lotsa leaves on the trees = summer

Grey skies, cold, wet and there are brown leaves on the trees = autumn.

We get no reliable hot weather, and we just pray the summer falls on a weekend.

We get no cold weather worth a damn, see no snow, - it has been 15 years or more since we had enough snow here to make it worth your while to build a snowman.

The poetry of Autumn has changed to 'Season of muck and muddy awfulness.'

All year round I am in danger of tracking mud into the house when I come in from the garden. In Spain, the garden is sandy, and there are no carpets to worry about.

That's another thing I hate. Fitted fricking carpets, and cutting the grass.
