Scumbags!!

Ok, I'm here again. You've probably had enough of me saying the same old thing but you guys are the only people who really understand.

Hubby and I barely talk to each other. Tonight, his few comments were about the scum that live around us. I know exactly what he means. He was walking back from Asda with our 3 year old son and he passed a family arguing, the dad calling the son a nobhead. Nice!!! That's the kind of area we're living in. I really don't want my kids growing up here. I feel like we're gonna be trapped, with house prices going down. Hubby and I both have the same feelings about these things but find it impossible to talk about it. If we had the money right now, we'd probably go back to US but we don't and I don't see us having any anytime soon. What did we do?? I feel so guilty for ruining my family's lives to drag them to this hell hole.

Thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear that :( out of interest what area are you living in.

We're just outside Preston and came from just outside Cleveland. When we bought the house, we heard bad things about the area so I called the police, council, knocked on doors to find out as much as I could. Everyone said the same thing, "Twenty years ago, you wouldn't want to have lived here but now it's an up and coming area" I really don't see it "up and coming" though and I don't want to wait around to find out.

Up and coming would suggest it's got something to come up from and still got a way to go.

I have lived in 5 different area in Uk and owned 5 houses....

Most areas have a social breakdown, infact all areas do....in the Uk,

My advice get out while you can and move to Australia, where you can escape the treadmill of british chavary.

If you got heaps of money you can move to a plush area I suppose.

One thing I noticed in UK when I returned after being overseas, is how selfish and insular people have become,, there is no mateship or general feeling of how are you.

Look in ASDA most of the employees are overweight slobs, probably earning just under the threshold to claim every benefit going, to feed the 6 kids they have...to 6 fathers....sorry just go on this [URL="http://www.fat-pie.com"]and its UK through and through...

We are renting in an OK area of outer Brisbane and there are certainly quite a few 'scumbags' live round here.

As for most of ASDA staff being overwight thats:rofl: seeing as Australia has one of the biggest obesity problems in the 'modern world'.

Franki if I could turn back the clock 6 months and know what I know now I most definately would not have come here to live but would have moved to another area in the UK, now its gonna take another 3 and half years to get back

Im afraid it can be just as bad here.
There is no true 'paradise', there are low lifes in every town in every country.
I have seen some slobby people here with their numerous kids by numerous fathers, however just because they choose to live their lives like that it doesnt always mean they are terrible persons. Its unfair to knock people because of their weight or lifestyle choices, its a free world, and unless they are making your life personally a misery you cant blame them.
I live on a new estate here, where the houses are fairly pricey. I moved here from Rockingham which has a lrage number of the type of people you describe. And yet a few months after moving here some d*ckheads came hooning around in their souped up V8 and ripped up all the parkland here. Yesterday in my local mall I saw a little boy crying in his stroller whilst his dad shouted and swore at him VERY loudly. As I drive down a local road I see a queue of aboriginal girls aged about 16 with kids in strollers waiting to catch the bus after visiting whomever in the prison. And I dont live in a rough area. there are far far worse places here!!!
The problem is the more negative you are about where you live the more you will notice the negative society around you. You have to learn to accept you cant find anywhere in this world where there is not a sh*tty group of people making it bad for all the good ones.
Be positive and try to think about how you can make your life more better without just seeing all the negative things. Can you not rent your house out and move somewhere else?

Other halfs brother and his family are in the process of selling up and moving to Aus and we are going back, they have been out for visits twice.

We generalize about things over here because when we tell them the truth and how the experience has been for us, our comments fall on deaf ears, so I suppose people have to come to their own decisions even though it can be a costly mistake.

I wasn't going to answer this post but please are you serious? I have just been there for 6 months and yes there are some problems but hell from what I have seen here in Sydney the last 5 weeks far outways anything I came across in England. The comments re Asda could be anywhere but I certainly didn't see that where I was staying. To much of a generalisation for me or maybe WA is that good,.

Re: Scumbags!!

Unfortunately I think scumbags are an international phenomenon. We have one living across the road from us - very nice area and usually we dont have any trouble but a lady is renting a house opposite and she has recently shacked up with a chappie who has difficulty containing his temper and his language. One of the great Aussie adjectivally challenged chappies. His range of nouns isnt that great either and let us say nobhead is very mild in comparison with what he calls his lady love. I find that arguments around here are much louder than anything I have heard in UK - some of that may be due to the shonky building but I think Aussies in general are not shy about having violent shouty matches in the street. Probably not quite as bad as PNG on govt pay day but close.

so sad!...possibly for the better that if as your name suggests that you're 'living in WA' . we have just moved back to Scotland from there and what a relief for us..back to fantastic community spirit, good education and boundless future opportunities. yes OMG there are fat people here..call the fat police but as you are very well aware it is no different to Australia..a problem in any westernised country and sadly I fear will become even worse in WA as it becomes more American by the day. My OH who is from WA is aghast at the changes and quite sad at the way WA is socially heading.

Sounds like a windup

What a load of Crap, What everyone in the UK is selfish and insular and everyone in Australia is totally unselfish?, give me a break.

As for social breakdown, I actually live in Canada and go back to the UK every 8 weeks or so now, but it took me about 4 days of being in Australia on a holiday before I saw chavvy kids hassling everyone on a train.

As for being overweight, I'd say they got a real problem in Australia, It's not surprising judging by the amount of McDonalds drive throughs there.

I know a lot of people from the Uk over here in Canada who continually bash the UK but deep down they are trying to justify their decision to move out here in the first place and the enormous amount of money they spent

Condiser the Philippines where life is comparable and similar to the 50's where we were all as kids overseen by neighbours and where they still say Yes sir..life here is civiliased but the opportunities later for growing children are limited and a return to USA would be the option for them at 18

Excuse me, I used to work for ASDA. They are a damn good employer. I wasn't an overweight slob, infact when I worked there I lost a lot of weight because of the sheer amount of exercise I was getting through working there. (working in the produce section does that to you.)
I put in a lot of hours, sometimes between 45 - 50 hours a week, I didn't claim any benefits. I was training to become a manager there (but then life brought me to the US, so :))
Don't judge people that have no choice but to work in places like ASDA. At least they are working and not scrounging off the dole. If Walmart was as good as ASDA, I would work for them again in a heartbeat.

May I say that "WA" is not Australia.....
This is a huge country, we live in Melbourne and I feel we're vastly advanced in the arts, food and culture industry compared to Perthites!

Maybe if we'd have gone to Perth, and thought Australia only consisted of "Perth", we might have felt the same as you and your OH!

You are asking me... on an expat board... why I didn't stay working for ASDA which is in the UK?!
My God, some people....
What makes you think the food in ASDA is shite? You get what you pay for, and for what you pay, you get excellent quality in ASDA. Too many people want something for as little as possible then have the cheek to moan about it when that is what they get!
If ASDA isn't good enough for you, go somewhere else and see if they offer better. No one's stopping you.
There, I just saved a customer service colleague a bad day.

Wow you are an ASDA fan arent you :p
And I suppose you think Coles and Woolies are fab quality here? I have had bones in bacon, gristle and god-knows-what in sausages and chicken steaks. The peanuts are like rocks. The dishwasher tablets are crap. I could go on for hours. So I dont care if ASDA is 'shite' and full of E numbers, its got to be a definite improvement on the low choice poor quality crap that is sold here. And if I see one more mud cake I think i will scream.

dont you just love my speed spelling.

Now this is funny. Food is shite.....:rofl:Did you know that Oz is the only westernised country that still allows an additive which has proven to cause some cancers? Guess what, this additive is found in almost every childs sweet and iced cake. Oz is the country of additives and colourings. It's only in the past few years they've actually had details of what's in the foods on the labels and yet still they can package 'fresh' bread, cakes, pitta etc. and not have to detail kj's, fat's additives etc. Wake up man, you really are saying some ridiculously, incredibly stupid things.

Aspartame, coconut, crap cereal bars full of things I wouldn't feed a dog let alone a child, grisly pies with rock hard pastry, the dirtiest factories I have ever seen and yes, I've seen afew here. Dates changed on processed meats, freezers not at the legal temperatures, milk and frozen foods not stored correctly. God, I could go on and on.

Frig, now I've really p*ssed myself off and want to leave these shores even more.:curse:

Talk about the land that time forgot and gets away with crap.
