And I suppose you think Coles and Woolies are fab quality here? I have had bones in bacon, gristle and god-knows-what in sausages and chicken steaks. The peanuts are like rocks. The dishwasher tablets are crap. I could go on for hours. So I dont care if ASDA is 'shite' and full of E numbers, its got to be a definite improvement on the low choice poor quality crap that is sold here. And if I see one more mud cake I think i will scream.

And if I see one more mud cake I think I wil scream lol. For me it is cheese cake, sick of the sight of it. I agree with the rest of your post.

Unfortunately I think scumbags are an international phenomenon. We have one living across the road from us - very nice area and usually we dont have any trouble but a lady is renting a house opposite and she has recently shacked up with a chappie who has difficulty containing his temper and his language. One of the great Aussie adjectivally challenged chappies. His range of nouns isnt that great either and let us say nobhead is very mild in comparison with what he calls his lady love. I find that arguments around here are much louder than anything I have heard in UK - some of that may be due to the shonky building but I think Aussies in general are not shy about having violent shouty matches in the street. Probably not quite as bad as PNG on govt pay day but close.

In France they have "Le Scumbaguette!"

This is a huge country, we live in Melbourne and I feel we're vastly advanced in the arts, food and culture industry compared to Perthites!

Maybe if we'd have gone to Perth, and thought Australia only consisted of "Perth", we might have felt the same as you and your OH!

Good luck!

Oh and did I say that I thought Australia only consisted of Perth...eh..no! What I did say was that Australia yes the whole big big country is heading the same sad way as all westernised countries in terms of obesity. I have also lived and worked in Melbourne and agree it is more varied in terms of arts and culture but lets not get too carried away with vastly advanced compared to Perth..when and where did you live in Perth out of interest?

i stay in a nice area across from the school and last night there were hoons wheel spinning into the early hours in the school carpark they woke my 8month up twice bastards!!! it happens everwhere and if you think oz is immune you truly are kidding yourself!!!

I lived in Mallorca the so called paradise island of Spain. I had plants stolen from outside my house, my child's pushchair stolen from outside the Salvation Army, my mobile phone grabbed, money pickpocketed in city centre of Palma and the final straw a young boy tried to snatch my sunglasses as I was waiting outside my daughter's school! Yes it was over a 4 year period but consider this I lived in London for 15 years before this and had no experience of crime whatsoever.
I'm now living in the north east and it's "paradise". I am in Gateshead with high socio-economic deprivation, yet my daughter's in a fantastic school and I can leave my car unlocked all night, people are so pleasant and friendly it took a lot of getting used to believe me. However I have a good friend across the bridge in Newcastle and her life is miserable from one family in her street, sometimes that's all it takes.
I think there's crime wherever you go but I was more scared in Mallorca than I ever was in London.
