Re: neighbours?

Just like in England, it depends on the area you live in. If you are in a snooty estate/tract, then all you might see is the back of an Volvo/SUV.

If you are in with a more earthy or ordinary crowd, then you might find it more open and friendly. Having said that, there are parts of the US that are decidedly unfriendly and cold and parts that are just plain wierd.

Last weekend I was rototilling the "alotment" in my back yard and the tiller broke. My neighbour (who we are v friendly with) told hers next door and he brought his tiller round for me to use to finish the job. I'd met the guy maybe 2 or 3 times - older retired bloke. He was very happy to help me out.

Now that is friendly - irregardless of which side of the Atlantic you are on, so we consider ourselves fortunate at last.

The older couple next to us are really lovely...they always leave some fresh flowers on our doorstep for DD as she loves their garden..(its beautiful) and I always make sure to take them something I've baked..to say thank you..

Now with the other neighbours...I only see or hear from them when they want something..:curse:...which is why I give them an extra wide berth..

We've been living in our house for almost 2 months now. We're surrounded by apartments (not high rent ones!) and those neighbours have never said a word to us. We have a house next to us and once across the street and those neighbours will say hi if we're out walking the dog, but that's it.

Coming from a super friendly neighbourhood in Liverpool where the neighbours sent 'welcome' cards when we moved in, I think it's odd. There doesn't seem to be a 'community' feeling. But who knows once it's summer, people might be more friendly when it's not cold out!

I have my first military ball on Friday, you wouldn't believe the trouble i had finding a suitable evening gown :curse: {then again, i think you would}

In the end i found a dress that is UP TO DATE and doesn't make me feel ancient, i had to go online for it though!

All worked out in the end :D

We have been amazed at the generosity of our neighbours.

I didn't have a car when we first moved in and one set of neighbours were off on holiday for a few weeks and offered us theirs. The same people, when they realised our furniture was still in transit, said we could stay in their house while they were away.

They have a sit on mower and will often just mow our lawns as well.

When we moved in we got lots of cards and baked goods, someone down the street arranged a lunch so that I could meet some of the other neighbours.

Then there was our surprise green card party the other week....I had no idea they were arranging that.
Our neighbourhood is quite secluded and self contained so that might be why everyone is friendly but generally I have found Pittsburgh to be like that.
It has lots of other faults:rofl: but it is a very friendly city.

although we live in a condo complex with over 50+ units, i can barely get a hello and short conversation out of most of my neighbors who don't attend the hoa meetings (and there are only 5 of us board members who attend regularly)...
