How long is your hubby's tour of duty? What will you do when he's away? Do you have any family over here?

I remember when i was younger, in our street in Middlesbrough, we {the neighbours} played games and had parties, where has all that gone!

of course, all the students are in somebody's house somewhere, boozing and what not............. sweep it under the carpet, all is well on the surface...

I vaguely remember street parties. I was four during the Jubilee thing.
Jelly and ice cream and all that.

I think Blue Peter used to encourage kids to organize street parties as part of that Bring and Buy sale thingy. The one with the cool totalizer. I used to like seeing that thing fill up, although I don't recall ever doing anything to actually help.

last november a brit business colleague of my husband's was arriving and staying overnight with us. it was as a Friday night and we had booked an excellent fine dining restaurant for dinner. the flight was 1 hr late so i called the restaurant and told them we'd now be arriving at 8.30 to 9pm and they said no problem. when we arrived at 9pm the place was empty, i kid you not...zero atmosphere and what a big let down :(

I think that everyone goes to bed so early because they have to get the kids up for school so EARLY! :frown:

we got up early for work in the uk but didn't stop us playing out in the evenings so dunno why they do it...they are sleeping their lives away i know that much :blink:

Yes, i married a service man {and so proud of him too} we met online two years ago. When he gets deployed, he is gone for 15 months. Sadly i have no family over here.

Find that here too...but they are mostly packed between 5.00 and 6.30.

Also find if you're out with friends no one says 'do ya wanna come back to ours for a bevvie'. Nope by 8.00pm everyone's heading home.

I know, i am talking {typing} again, i haven't got no one to talk to:blink::embaressed_smile:

When my husband visited the UK, one thing that he was astonished with was the way total strangers pass the time of the day chit chatting with each other at the bus stop etc-

he loved it once he got used to it!

Not quite so true around our way; I even have a regular Thursday night drink or three down the local with friends and we don't even meet up until 9 or 9:30.
