Now why doesn't that surprise me, but I do hold a candle for Southsea. We're not in USA btw, we're in Perth, WA, but hello to you anyway.

My mates bro emigrated out to WA few years ago.
As for Southsea its still much as you may recall it apart from Gunwharf Quays and the fact that house prices are now insane.

House prices are insane almost everywhere back home and here in Perth too. Is Gunwharf where the old cannon was/is along the coast? I have a picture of me taken sitting on that gun.

We know quite a number of people here who are from pompey. Might even know your mates bruv'.

Gary Vince is his name ?
Gunwharf is where HMS Vernon shore base was so if you remember where IOW car ferry goes from next door.
http://www.gunwharf-quays.com/
Great Ruby house there I will be eating in again January 9th!!
Couple of canon probably by Castle or round tower where funny enough they have a sculpture celebrating the people embarking for Oz.
I miss home already.
As for housing the thing is some of the parts of Southsea no one would touch 15 years ago that are selling for big money.

Not heard that name. I think the gun was by the round tower and Gunwharf was definitely not there the last time we were. We crossed to the IOW for the day to visit a couple we'd met in Tunisia the previous year. It rained most of the time, but when we got back to the hotel in Southsea, they said they'd had no rain!

You've got to get to Summertown and check out LB's, it's the best Lebanese food around...or if you like proper chinese on the cheap, the chinese over the bridge past glocester green rocks.

Things probably haven't changed much, and if your not fussy, The Blenheim pub behind westgate centre does the best steak and chips, sure it's a gay pub, but it's quiet at lunch and not filled with students unlike the Lion, The Camel etc....oh, but the pub opposite Checkers down the side alley is superb but the name escapes me, but speaking of checkers, the chippy next door down the side alley is the best...hmmm....I miss that place...that and the dude that does the kebab van on St Giles....hungry now

Thanks Bob, I'll check out LB's. There is a very good curry house in Summertown called the Spice Lounge, went there last week.

Eagle and Child pub has been the one of choice so far, although where I'm living you really are spoilt for choice!

As my trip home draws to a close, I have been somewhat disappointed not to have seen hundreds of thousands of Pole dancers roaming the streets. The Daily Mail said they were here, but I've yet to see one sequinned thong

Fly home on Wednesday - this is my last day in Brum

Aye....plenty of good pubs....I use to live in Old Marston, in the middle of five pubs, though one of them has closed down now apparently...but the Victoria Arms is pretty nice in spring, just punt down the river to it, nice in winter too but the food does go down hill a bit over the summer....oh and if your in Jericho, your not that far from the Trout, and that really is one of the best pubs around for food
