If you got the dug his rabies jab this month you could be away in 6 months.

We missed being back for xmas by 3 weeks coz we thought we'd be free to go with the dug 6 months after the rabies INJECTION.

But it's 6 months after the blood test which can only be done 3 weeks after the rabies injection.

It's all confusing initially but makes sense once you start doing what's needed.

I'm paying up the Dogtainers bill and almost paid it off now. Seems costly to get back initially but when you start to pay it up, it soon reduces. We're only on one average wage as well.
You can do it.

Look forward to reading your updates on how your plans are going for moving back home. It's a bit of a bitch waiting another year (as I am doing), but it will be here before you know it.............good luck with all your plans

i fear the worse has yet to come with us, as i have a teenager who wants to stay however , she is the reason we are staying another year, until she finishes school, she is talking about a gap year and travelling , so hopefully it will all come together without too much heartache, but who knows??, but we have got to go back, financially we cant stay here , even if we liked it, which we dont!!

we are not young and have to think about retirement, i want to get back to the nhs superann quickly, and at least there is a glimmer of hope of me retiring at some point!!

it does sound confusing, anyway will phone a vet and make an appointment next week and start getting him sorted.

Is it just me or is there hardly anywhere to walk the dogs here, when we were young and stayed in sunny Blantyre we took our dog a walk down to the clyde, at least, twice a day, let him off his lead and not a bugger in sight and the dog ran about to his heart was content, if you let them off there leads here, its all tut! tut! from passers by

I hear you, I'm not so young myself (just turned 42 ~ can't believe I'm that old), divorced, no kids. But, am very close to my godson and his sister, and that's why I am staying for another year as she is going off to college next year. Then I can go off to Scotland, so we'll both be moving (godson already lives in another state). Feel like they are my kids, I helped raise them, long story......... So, I decided to get my American citizenship before leaving so I can freely travel back and forward, should have it within the year.

Do you have Australian citizenship? You never know what will happen in the future, right

Thanks. They're lovely kids, and that's why I've stayed here in the US so long. Now it's time for me to get back home. But, I have enjoyed my time here and made some lovely friends.

If it is any help to you, I was planning on going back this year to Scotland before I changed my plans ~ and the this past year flew by (Could have been the fact that I was busy all year with my plans to go home....)

So, here's wishing this next year is the same, so you can get back home before you know it

No, it's not just you. We took Sprocket down to "the dog beach" at Brighton last weekend only to find it TINY and HEAVING with so many dogs, so much so I couldn't let Sprocks off the lead! We were really dissapointed in it. There are "ovals" dotted around, where providing no-one's playing football, you can sometimes take your dog there. They're usually all enclosed and if you get there at the right time, sometimes no-one else is there. We've just found one and only managed to have Sprocks off the lead once so far.
I really miss seeing him RUN! It's just not the same here.
M - you can only take your dog to a vet who is qualified with a AQIS cert. Not every vet has this qualification. Do a search for vets near you via the AQIS website.Actually here - I've just done it for you.
http://www.daffa.gov.au/__data/asset...77/compvic.pdf

That lists all the Victoria vets with an AQIS cert. Only they can do the rabies jab and blood tests.

I made the same mistake of thinking 6 months, when it is actually 6 months + 6 weeks for the shots first, so I won't be home for xmas either.

I have 3 dogs though, so it is costing me $4000 to get them to London and then I think I will drive to Scotland (it's another $1750 for the LHR to GLA flight!) on a one way car hire or get the rels to come and get us at LHR. ither way its a bargain to get home and still have my little woofers

Your dog is so cute!

The webiste is defra.gov.uk for all the official info, just be sure and use an accredited vet, there's a list on there, Dogtainers do the rest.

eeeeeeeeek , thank goodness we just have one (although ave been tempted many times to get another, but my hubby would kill me, lol)

bit of a pain this london to glasgow thing!!!, dunno if my rellies would go that far for me, never mind ma dug, spose one of us could hire a car, probably me ! and hubby and the girls could get a connecting flight, eeeeeekkkkk its all sounding a bit real when i type like this.

Unfortunately we dont have any rellies we will be able to stay with when we return (our rellies are definatley thin on the ground!!, so will ave to look at a caravan park or summit!! (2 weeks in craig tara in ayr is sounding like heaven just now, lol, lol)

Yep its a pain, but at least we will NEVER have to do it again.
I do hate Heathrow too, but might never have to see the place again hopefully after next year (if I can't fly from Scotland I'm not going there - wherever it is).

If my rels weren't coming down I was considering a one way car hire, but apparently BA will transport your dogs on the flight form LHR to GLA a lot cheaper if you check them yourself, once they have cleared quarantine.

Only thing is they don't have an email address for their World Cargo depot at Heathrow, so I'm having to get my mum to call them, and she didn't know what size the crates etc were....so she is going to try again.

Once I get an answer I will post it on the forum for all the Scottish dog owners who are going home

Yep you can put your pet on the domestic flight yourself, pick it up when it clears Customs at the Animal Centre at LHR.

What we are all trying to figure out is how much BA is going to charge us to put the pets on the domestic flight ourselves - has anyone got an answer out BA yet?

I have heard of dog passports, how do i got about getting one, and does this exempt them from quarantine.

Also anyone any ideas about cost, does size matter so to speak, he's a teeny weeny schnauser.

Do i have any other vacanations to get him.

Thanks folks.
I've not got time to read through all the thread but look in the BE Wiki...there's info there about taking dogs back to the UK in the UK section.
