It's typically a name given to women who were born in the 1950s or so.... in the US names are much more closely tied to years of popularity than to "class."

My name was wildly popular in the late 60s, and then stopped. Most Amys are about my age! My mother *swears* she didn't know anyone else that named their daughter Amy until she met another mom and baby in the grocery store and guess what?

That Amy and I ended up at the same high school, with loads of other Amys.

Hmm that's probably true, it seems Jenny/Jennifer is a really popular US name for women in there mid-late 20's and early-mid 30's, there must be 10 in my neighbourhood at least.
