It use to take 2hrs to decipher what they were trying to say :D |
Re: Brits Hate Americans???
Just curious, reading your first post, then later the second quote. If you have been to UK recently, why you would ask about how the British felt about the Americans, when you have already spent time there already, even if it was a holiday, so would have some form of impression of whether people took you as an individual or not.
My first impression on your first post was that you had never set foot in UK. Mercedes. [QUOTE]Originally posted by Heather1111 There is a large chance that my husband and I will be moving back to his home country (England). I am scared to death because of all the terrible things I hear and read about the hatred toward Americans. I am very worried that if I we go there, I will be subjected to constant insults and prejudice from British people just because of where I was BORN. How is that fair? Better yet....How can that behavior even be considered as HUMAN? I'd really like to hear from some British people as to why this is? Quote Heather111 I sooooooo agree with you on that! I loved the area when I was in Manchester.... The pubs were the most relaxing and perfect way to unwind. Too many pubs/bars in this area (NC) are just slapped together and they all seem to look exactly alike. I was told by my friends in the South that the North was a terrible place to visit. When I got there, I found that they were 100% wrong (in my opinion). It reminded me a lot of areas in Mass, where I grew up. Also: I know what you're talking about with the strong accent issue.... I spent four days in Wales during January 2003 and I had to ask people to repeat themselves about three times per sentence. I felt like a total dork...lol |

No I suggested he use just the one name and start afresh ...
and hopefully there will be no more grief! Ray |
I received this PM from silvershadow/mikej
You just can't help yourself can you? Pesky little troll that you are, going through threads, to see who is who, is that what you come on here to do? Oh...and you just had to go and announce it to everyone that have been allowed back. Trying to make it known that it is me, by cutting my posts and making reference to it. Surely you must have something else interesting in your life, or may be not as the case may be. That thread that you jumped into, was an interesting one until you got there. If you had a question to ask, you could have just PM me. Am glad Ray put you in your place, and you know what? He is monitoring what is going on now, so you could be next ! Oh and for the record Ray, nowt against you lad, but I only have the one username, but am curious, when did you put me in my place? |
Originally posted by Heather1111 If that is the biggest issue I have to deal with, I'll probably end up with some good buddies..... I'd rather vote for a cockroach than him....:D :D |
Oh and for the record Ray, nowt against you lad, but I only have the one username, but am curious, when did you put me in my place? I have tried to play fair with MickJ and others and treat everyone here as adults. So lets just move on, and let the Silvershadow subject get relegated to the back pages so to speak? Fair enough? |

While in Manchester, I didn't have many opportunities to speak to people at all. Rob and I just wanted to spend as much time together as possible before I had to come back home. We were kind of in our own little world, knowing my time was limited. The post about enjoying the area was true... I really did love a lot of the parks, shops, pubs etc... etc... But I was with Rob at all those places. My remarks were directed toward the actual places I had been and how they reminded me a lot of the atmosphere and structures of my hometown. I only had chance to get into brief conversations with about four people. Such a small amount of people really doesn't give me much of an idea to go on....But if it is the norm, that would be great. :-) Those people were very pleasant but I felt I needed a bit more feedback and example than only that....So far, I have got a lot from this site, so that's a good thing.... :-) |

Re: Brits Hate Americans???
Fair enough. There a lot of countries who dont like the Brits, and sometimes you are aware of it and sometimes not. But those who judge you on nationality alone arent worth bothering about anyway, and like anywhere you will meet great people and not so great, just dont take any of it personally. Have a blast and enjoy the adventure and good luck.
