Oh dear We have to have a laugh
otherwise we would go insane a?
Yes Mrs Best i am still here, still moaning
Trouble is.....it's not all about me is it? i represent just one from our family unit of 4.
Still nearly Xmas..... my first trip back
Hoping it will cement how i truly feel either way.

Hi Desire
I know exactly how you feel,we have been here in adelaide for 14 months now and Im absolutely bored stiff!!!
I had lots of dreams prior to coming and there is no hope at all of fulfilling any of them
its freezing cold most of the time and I have never known anywhere with so many petty rules and regulations
we are pondering trying queensland for a while and if its much the sme going home
I miss the lovely country pubs and europe holidays and most of all the culture and conversation
Adelaide seems very very backward
Some days I cry about it all and wish that I could turn back the clock and if one more person tells me how wonderful it is here!!I THINK I WILL SCREAM

Don't have regrets, try to see it as an experience, you had to try it to find out if it was right for you, otherwise you would have never known

From: Sydney, Australia, but home to EU in 2009 for good!

You’re not alone, and I don’t think its limited to Adelaide (I lived in Perth – would rather slit my wrists than go back there again).
Sydney is good, I think I only like it because its the closest thing Australia has to a modern international city. But in General the whole country is boring.
I moved out here when I was a kid, and have been back and forth a few times, I most recently moved back here in October after some convincing from my Partner. Since then I have been so bored and realise everyday even more, just how crap this country is.
I can say that when I leave next year for good. I will never ever come back to this country, not even for a holiday. I’m only 23 so it’s easier for me to pick up and go. I feel sorry for the families that sold up everything in the UK to come out here because of the big lie (you know that bull about it being the best lifestyle), only to find out it’s nothing but a desert island in the middle of nowhere with nothing going for it.

I was sold the "dream" and "lifestyle" tag and got the old "cost of living is sooooo much cheaper" line. I was hemorrhaging money the whole time I was there, this was a major factor for myself+missus leaving.
How can the "lifestyle" be better if we're living at a lower standard for less money!
Best thing I ever did was leave.
Also, the boredom almost turned me into an alcoholic.
I'm bored today working in the UK, but at least I'm getting paid double what I did in Oz!!

Just one other thing, I'd love to know how many 10 pound poms really wanted to return but have been unable to for whatever reason?

I think that is a very good question - I suspect that for everyone that left to go back homethere would have been at least one other who would have gone but couldnt for some reason. I have met a number of long term expats who basically say "if I knew then what I know now I wouldnt have come". By the time it gets to the second generation (or third etc) so many young Aussies, when you talk to them at the end of school, say that they cant wait to get out of this boring place and go to Europe. A good many of them stay there too.

hello ellie10990 I dont know if you remember I have just moved up to brisbane about nine weeks ago We are currently renting in Samford which is really nice 3.5 acres,4min drive to the school and the village shops,I really didnt like Adelaide lived there for 2 and half years,to be really honest I got quite depressed and eventually went to the doctors and got help, even still I never enjoyed adelaide I just got my strenght back to plan our move to qld.My attitude hasnt changed,if that makes sense,I am no different from what I was in adelaide,my surroundings are a lot nicer the neighbour next door has about 7 ponies on his land so I see them all the time we have a family of ducks that have taken a fancy to our dam sulpher crested cocatoos regularly visit our trees even a snake was outside our front door maybe not so nice But I didnt freak out like I expected to.The most noticable thing I have noticed the people are alot nicer ,happier, layed back.I could never imagine living in Adelaide again in fact it was a death sentence.I have even got a job I have been working now for 2 weeks but in Adelaide I struggled for 2 and half years, things like this just make such a difference.I hope you find what you are looking for in Brisbane and good luck if you do a reccie And you are up near samford I wouldnt mind meeting up if you like take care z
