Defiantly do able. Getting selling woman, you only have 5 weeks
So long as you aren't going to sit of your stuff waiting for ideal prices, and are willing to let stuff go, you can do it.

So excited to read this! Of course you can do it!
We are in the process of sorting stuff now, but honestly you can catch up very quickly.....we are shipping a 40ft container back from California to England. We haven't sold our cars or appliances yet but have some friends who might be interested in buying them. If not we'll advertise locally and on Craigslist. I have made numerous trips to Goodwill and foresee several more
Please do let us know if you book on the QM2 - my kids (11 and 13) are already excited about the crossing, but being able to come and visit some friendly dogs on board would just be the icing on the cake for them!!!!!

Pombat we've already booked and paid for the sailing. We managed to get a sale price which was AWESOME but is non-refundable.
2 of my dogs LOVE playing. The other 2 are somewhat aloof but enjoy being petted!!!! I'm sure they'd love a visit from your kids!
So much to do but I KNOW I can get it done. Hopefully one of the guys who has shown interest in my husband's business actually decides to buy it. Then my husband can relax a little and then give me a hand!!!!

Yup, of course it is do-able! Dont you know that saying "If it werent for the last minute nothing would ever get done" - sounds like you just accelerated the time line for your "last minute" to me.
When we left UK for Aus we did it within a month - selling house, packing up, giving stuff away etc easy peasy LOL

Pombat, you have a 40ft container. We are currently going through the sums of whether to go for a 20ft (company pays all) and having to dispose of half our belongings and buy again the other end, or pay some extra ourselves and ship the lot across in a 40ft one. I`m coming round to thinking it might be a 40ft and save ourselves all those shopping expeditions! Did you have a similar decision to make?

We were going to fly but all my dogs are older (the youngest is 9 the oldest we think about 13) so we didn't want to put them thru that if we didn't have to. All my friends and family who have flown with dogs said it was fine but their dogs were younger and they clearly don't panic as much as me!!!!!
Also this is about $1500 cheaper!!!!! When you're dealing with 4 instead of 1 the $$ seem to mount up quickly!!!

WOW congrats Britwhore!
Yep 5 weeks is doable, stressful, but definitely doable.
I am not leaving until next July (on the QM2 also) but am dying to get stuck in, go through the boxes in our basement and the kids toys, just get rid of stuff. It just isn't possible though, especially as the kids don't know yet!
Good luck with your trip home and have fun on the QM2!

Not sure if Travel Insurance is something that you need, but thought I would include this link to a thread on the subject. Pombat and I have both bought this insurance as it will cover repatriation to UK vs the US/Canada.
Only problem is I can't figure out how to link the other thread. Check out
Cunard Diamond Jubilee thread, I think the insurance discussion starts on page 5.
