Borrow or buy a tent, a couple of sleeping bags and a disposable bbq; head out two and half hours out of town (passing the car museum on the way which or may not be open) and head to Liwa. Park up on the edge of the empty quarter, put a tent up, light the braai and have a night under the stars. Everyone we brought out on holiday loved that experience much more than the sights of the city.
