They don't go off when I pass them at 140 (indicated on the speedo rather than an accurate speed readout such as off a GPS)

fair enough - people were saying that they dropped the dxb limit when they raised the fine a few months ago. have never found out for sure...

Basically, I'd say its too far. By half. I have done it on several occasions, and I've got all the speed cams logged on my GPS to minimise slowdowns. I'm coming from Abu Dhabi, but if you look at the map its a similar distance to Dubai and the road (and amount of cameras) are similar.
Everyone is different, but a couple of hours commute every day in either direction would drive me round the twist. ANd time city limit to city limit is meaningless also - it'll depend exactly where you work and live.

Right Matt, it is exactly 120km to al Ain from the Ranches Roundabout. It is 65 Km before you hit the Abu Dhabi border. All the signs say 120 Km but basically you can hoof it in Dubai because you can quite clearly see the speed cameras which are facing you and get you on your approach. This all changes when you get into AD. The central reservation is palm trees, with speed cameras that get you as you go past them, they are quite slim and well hidden from you until you are right upon them. We counted 14 of them and then gave up. It all depends on where your office is in Al Ain as well, it is the roundabout capital of the world and can be quite infuriating. It took us just over an hour to get to Al Ain and another 30 - 40 mins to actually find the Hilton. (Nice hotel by the way). Coming back this morning we went over 9 roundabouts before we got onto the Dubai Al Ain road - it was then an hour exactly to get back to Dubai. I did 120 right up until the Dubai border then went up to 140 and 150 between speed cameras. I saw a few landcruisers and Range Rover Sports go through the camera and they never flashed. Also the huge signs on the side of road with the speed limits on them have been covered over, however the smaller 120 signs are still visible. Hope this helps!
