Re: Lack of Clothes - again

All this vagueness about what is indecent and what is not is not going to fly is it?

They should just introduce mandatory wearing of an abaya for all ladies and get it over with. It won't have any effect on tourism or the economy, someone has already established that (can't remember who and frankly I don't care).

Hell, while they're at it I reckon bring in some of the muttawa chaps from Saudi to patrol the malls. That won't have any effect on tourism either.

I also think that all the generalisations about Western expats dressing inappropriately are out of proportion too...some do..many don't.

The point about the Arab/muslim men in bars drinking and/or being with prostitutes is that it is definately against the law here, whereas the dress code is exactly that..a code.

I liked all of them :D
Surely the whole point of the "dress code" thing is about inappropriate dress in the malls and places that families and children go. I don't see anything wrong with any of those dresses for parties or clubs.
If I go out in the evening to a club this is not a place that children or 'local' families frequent. I always have a pashmina with me if I have to walk through a public area.
I think the whole thing is getting out of control. :)

You and me both.

Mind you were both know that some people think it's fine for their children to be out well after 10pm at night, and even into the small hours, yet they complain about others showing a bit of leg or holding hands. Some people just have very strange priorities in life.

Then let them bounce around in their cars whilst driving at 140kph on the way home.

FGM, Stoning for adultery, Honor Killings, Not being able to drive, Wearing black in this heat, Seen as baby machines, A life of 'obeying your husband' - all these things happen because of tradition. That is also perfectly acceptable Mentalist?

Whilst I agree, there are a lot of shit women drivers out there and a wife should tend to my every whim, Its a pretty repressive life in a day and age when the world is evolving, giving equality to both the sexes?

Nothing to do with Dark ages. Prostituion existed in the middle ages as well. All they ask for is abit of modesty and not eveyone trying to outcompete each other on who can wear the least amount of clothing . If everyone was modest women would not get judged on their assets, instead in a communist esque way they would all be seen equally and no one would use physical attributes to get the upperhand. Men would also find it easier to not compare there wives to other scantly clad women in public. You may think thats all gibberish but theese ideas are all victorian, only adopted by arab recently. The victorians achieved alot perhaps we can learn something from them.

Eveyone should have the confidence to reject peer pressure.

Adultery can ruins someones life, physical wounds recover , emotional do not. However the stoning is going waaay too far.

Honor Killing ? Now that is the most hypocritical one yet. Have you never heard of a boy killing his ex girlfiend in the uk because she got a new boyfriend? Or crazy ex wives? Just because the media doesnt call it honor killings you think it doesnt happen in the UK.

Women can drive everywhere part from crazy saudi arabia.Where they can all afford drivers.
The black thing actually keeps them cool its no different to the white thing men wear. The face covering is optional and probably becaue they dont like men checking them out.
Seen as baby machines ? As opposed seen as assets and objects in other countries. Many women choose to be mothers, you shouldnt judge them.

Is the world evolving ? I think the gains of the suffregates have been lost and Families are alot weaker and more dysfuctional. Global inequality increases every year.

Bar celebrities who actually tries to compete to wear the least amount of clothes??? No one.

So its alright to beat some one and hurt them physically you are saying??? and adultery ruins lives?? I think the emotional effects of prolonged physical abuse would last far far longer than someone cheating on you

They are not family murdering family, and all because they fell in love with the wrong person or bought *shame* on the family. Your family should stand by you no matter what in a civilised culture.

Women can drive everywhere part from saudi arabia.Where they can all afford drivers.Nope, there is also poor saudi's that have nothing.

Dont make me laugh, black attracts heat not reflects it. It is the worse colour to wear in the heat, anyone that lives in the sun will tell you that

The face covering is optional and probably becaue they dont like men checking them out.
The same men that expect their women to be covered up and will kill them if they leave a loveless unhappy marriage?

Seen as baby machines ? As opposed seen as assets and objects in other countries.
Atleast the *assets* can pick and choose who they want to be with and when they want to leave

Quite possibly the most thoughtless post I have read on here............

Guys, this is really a pointless discussion, you are all just typical victims of stereotyping. Bottom line is, No one can claim to uphold the upper moral grounds, there is good and bad in every culture/traditions. One just need to scrach the surface to see the other not so pretty face of his/her otherwise assumed perfect moralities.

Why couldn't you quote my paragraphs separately instead of just editing my post...

Im not trying to purposely controversial. When you think about you know I make sense. I cant debate with someone who assumes all arab women are in unhappy marriages.

othing to do with Dark ages just abit of modesty and not eveyone trying to outcompete each other on who can wear the least amount of clothing.
Eveyone should have the confidence to reject peer pressure.

Bar celebrities who actually tries to compete to wear the least amount of clothes???

All public places, malls, beaches etc. Same logic which makes people buy designer labels.

So its alright to beat some one and hurt them physically you are saying??? and adultery ruins lives?? I think the emotional effects of prolonged physical abuse would last far far longer than someone cheating on you

prolonged abuse ? are you imaginating this . I dont think its okay to hurt them physically, but I cant see the logic of criminalizing it. However, in the UAE they dont believe in locking up 10000s of people at $15,000 they lash people for minor crimes. So ofcourse they will have even more violent punishment for bigger the 'crime'.

They are not family murdering family, and all because they fell in love with the wrong person or bought *shame* on the family. Your family should stand by you no matter what in a civilised culture.

Fell in love with the wrong person. Same logic and thinking. Starting dating your boss and you felt *shame* so you killed them both. You stand by the person you love even if they move on and you dont. Just because something is not reported in the media as often doesn't mean hasnt happened. Its common in america and eastern Europe for interracial couples to be abused and sometimes even murdered in cold blood.

Nope, there is also poor saudi's that have nothing.
Saudi Arabia has a massive welfare state and Saudi Arabia is the odd one out and not representative of that regions culture. The Saudi thinking behind it is not to oppress women although I accept the result is the result sort of killing them with kindness.

Dont make me laugh, black attracts heat not reflects it. It is the worse colour to wear in the heat, anyone that lives in the sun will tell you that

This may not conform with your arrogant pre held world view. I am afraid you have to subscribe to see the full reasons given for why loose black clothes are cooler in hot weather than white clothes:
http://www.newscientist.com/article/...last-word.html

The same men that expect their women to be covered up and will kill them if they leave a loveless unhappy marriage?
Have saudi women told you they are unhappy ? how many have you met. Again most women in the gulf dont cover faces and seem perfectly happy.

Women wear it because they want to and dont like men checking them out. Before you say men tell their wives to cover up, any evidence ? second men in the UK can also ask there parters what to wear on a night out and women often conform because they want to go the extra mile for their man. Some men even tell them to get boobs jobs, which is far worse.

I dont know how you some how interpreted that to mean than men will kill their wives.Divorces happen in arab countries all the time that dont end in murder. Have you spoken to women who wear the modest clothing ? do they wear the clothes out of force ? the face veil is rare, but have you spoken to any of them either ?

Atleast the *assets* can pick and choose who they want to be with and when they want to leave
The baby machines can also pick who they want to have children with. At least the baby machine wont get replaced by a younger model after the age of 30. Women would rather be as people first but after than they would rahter seen as Mothers than One night stands.

This topic was not about wearing the face veil,Burka or Arab culture but modest clothing.Your post seemed to go off on a rather wide tangent.

Why do people state that someone's a troll when they express their views? I'm sure in these pages, somebody accused me of being a troll or the likes...

But hey, weren't the trolls that the kids had in the 90's, weren't they modestly dressed too!!!

because he/she is purposely trying to get a reaction by saying things that are controversial. even you must understand this concept...

nobody has ever accused you of being a troll as far as i am aware. some of us have argued with you, but in contrast to a typical troll you actually seem to believe the stuff you write..
