Re: Killer road
It's the way its done here.
Like is said to me so many times, if you don't like it, leave. Fast driving is not restricted to emirates. It occurs in most if not all GCC countries. If you can't take the speed, get in a cab and stop bitching about the way people drive. Oh, and I'd be willing to bet that 90% of high speed collisions are not the fault of the driver of the high speed car. Especially here, alot more accidents are caused by idiots changing lanes without looking, especially from the second from left to left lane, cutting off a car traveling at high speed. |

I agree that some of the high speed collisions are not caused by the high speed driver....... But if the high speed driver wasn't going so fast....maybe the thing that caused the accident (failure to give way, tyre blow out, poor driving skills or whatever) wouldn't result in death if the high speed driver wasn't going at high speed. I agree with GarethR's comment that speed doesn't cause all accidents. But speed makes the results of whatever casued the accident that much worse. We could all drink and drive if we all did 0kph We could all drive with no knowledge of the road code or no respect for other road users if we did 0kph It's speed and speed only that kills people - it may not cause the accident....but it defintely dictates how bad that accident will be. [QUOTE=TA5] If you can't take the speed, get in a cab and stop bitching about the way people drive. QUOTE] ...what difference does it make if someone is in their own car or in a taxi when they get 't-boned' by you at 160? PULL YOUR HEAD IN! |

The point is - the road is there for everyone. Every driver has their own personaltiy, their own driving style, their own problems in life that may distract them etc etc etc That driver does not deserve to die when they don't see a fast car coming through when they're changing lanes. They don't deserve to die when their tyre blows out on them causing them to veer out of their lane and get smashed up by someone doing 160. You may well be confident driving at 160. But you DO NOT have the right to put everyone else at jeopardy when they make a mistake. On a formula 1 track it works because the drivers are all trained and concentrating. On a public road it doesn't as people are trying to find a good song on the radio, thinking about their upcoming divorce, worrying aobut the presentation they have to give at work etc etc etc. I'm certainly not saying it's right that people shouldn't be concentrating when they drive but the fact is it's human nature and mistakes will always be made by humans when they drive. But is certainly not right that they should die for their error. The above distractions cause accidents agreed. The speed causes the death. Hypothetical situation -------------------- TA5 - Your mother is driving ahead of you and has a blow-out on her front tyre. Her car veers sideways into your lane. Would you rather smash into her driver side door at 80kph or 160kph? |

OooOOOoohh - Jumeirah Jane's getting in the way again, is she?
First off, there's no way he'd hit her because:

My best guess is that he's been investing this extra 30 minutes into all of the insightful and intelligent posts he writes here. *RING -- SMS JUST IN* Jumeirah Jane has asked me to tell TA5 to go piss on an electric fence. Ooooh - the mouth on HER!!!!!

Re: Killer road
Basically no matter how great we all think we are at driving and that we won't be involved in an accident, sooner or later we will (especially if we think we are untouchable). My Dad always says, don't trust anything mechanical as it will let you down. I'm betting most of us here in Dubai have nice cars and are in perfect working order, however when doing 160km+ along the SZR and a car pulls out in front of you doing 80kms, it's not necessary your driving skills that will slow your car down, but the brakes... which hopefully will slow the car down or they could suddenly fail on you. It happens, and have seen the consequences.
I'm the first to admit I like to drive fast, we owned a golf VR6 in the UK and would often be driving along the M25 90mph+ But since living here and seeing and hearing about the accidents here, I have "slowed down". I always stick to the speed limit around town and don't often venture into the "fast lane" unless absolutely necessary. I've seen more accidents here in three months than I ever did in the UK. Be safe on those roads. Zannie x |

Re: Killer road
I think the other reason I drive fast here is i am typically one of 5 cars on all of al khail and emirates road on the way to Sharjah airport in the morning and on the way back in the evening. Nobody goes that way, its the best commute in all of dubai.
I can honestly say i've never once sat in a traffic jam in the 1 year i've lived in dubai. Have a great view of them from the 23rd floor, but never had to deal with that. Hell, I bet it takes me less time (:30) to get from sharjah airport to the maring in than it takes to get from internet city to the springs in the evening. Coming back from Jebel Ali kite beach just now saw a near accident by a typical jj, pretty ****ing dumb blond if you ask me, while i'm waiting to enter a road from the side because there is traffic on the road, she just decides that there must not be any traffic and I must be waiting for no reason, goes around my car, and throws the front of her range rover out into the street, screech screech honk honk, boy did she look dumb... here's a good one for all you haters... A private voicemail from Lindsay Lohan to Paris Hilton. You won't believe what she said. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/lohanparis.html |
Re: Killer road
On the same road at different times it may be safe to do 180kph or 80kph may be too fast, depending on traffic, weather etc. Knowing the difference is what makes a good driver and sadly that judgement is often lacking in Dubai. A superior driver uses his superior judgement to stay out of situations that require his(her) superior skill.
Maybe the increase in the price of petrol will slow people down a bit. |
Re: Killer road
TA5 i've said it before and i'll say it again,
You're an arrogant and deeply ignorant ********. Any ****ing idiot who claims that he is a good driver at the same time as admitting he drives at excessive speeds quite clearly cannot be a good driver and is in fact a self deluding idiot who with anyy luck will only kill himself and not others when he does eventually have his big smash. Speed kills......get it...its a universally known and proven truth and yet you in your infinite wisdom seem to think ( as do all fly by night ******) that your so good behind the wheel that accidents only happen to other "bad" drivers. Get a grip you ******. |
Re: Killer road
"Indians and their like"
What a fantasticly revealing statement!!! well done showing your true colours llike that....very brave "Jumeirah Janes prancing along in the left lane at 100 km/h talking on the phone " To their husbands and friends....two experiences yoiu will be missing in life..... "I take it not many of you have driven around germany." What a typical American assumption, your nation has a habit of cocking up when both it,as a state and its citizens make them....in case you didnt notice most of us are from Europe so i would suspect that we may have visited Germany "All you whiners that complain about speed...IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, STAY OUT OF THE FAST LANE. " SLOW DOWN YOU ****ING IDIOT YOU WILL KILL SOMEONE SOONER OR LATER AND IT WONT MATTER WHAT LANE THEY ARE IN> "Frankly, the worst drivers I've seen around here are westerners that think they know how to drive but really don't have a clue, way worse than locals, and pretty comparable to indians?" That would be you then!!!!! It is impossible to be a good driver on a public highway if you drive with excessive speed in a vehicle which is not designed for performance driving. If you want to drive fast, get on the track in a sports car not on the highway with a jeep!!! |
